Tap at KEG. Pours pinkish hazy golden with thin head. Nose is strawberry and cheesecake. Taste is strawberry, low rhubarb perhaps, artificial cheesecake, some maltyness. Pretty sweet altogether, barely sour. Closes with long lasting sweet finish, has light to medium body and soft carbonation. So it’s a sweet fruity beer with some aroma, but I have a different idea of a pastry sour tbh.

500ml can from Sophiesbeershop: BB 24th Apr 2021. Drank at home on 16th Nov 2020. Didn't look great, in fact it looked awful, a dirty dishwater brown with no head at all, it appeared foreboding and sinister! Luckily it had an interesting aroma and taste; I really got the strawberrys and rhubarb, cheesecake too. Very clever.

Can from MV/VM. Hazy orange body, no head. Cheesecake natural aroma mixing with lactic acid, perfumey and strong. No strawberry or rhubarb there. Taste... cheesecake aroma again! With trace, and I mean trace something that might be strawberry and/or rhubarb. Dry and also sweet, lactose comes into play solidly, some lactic acid shows up and gives some tratness in the finish. Far more simple than it claims it is sadly. Just okay.

500ml can sophiesbeerstore.co.uk. Pours unclear orange, no head remaining. Aroma of strong rhubarb, strawberry, pastry. Taste brings tart vivid rhubarb, working alongside sweet juicy strawberry with some defined cheesecake elements. Usually these pastry sours are all about the fruit that can be found on top of a pastry, but Maltgarden seem to have found a way to incorporate the whole thing. And quite well. A light sour edge helps to define the fruit flavours, bringing a nice clarity. Works surprisingly well.
