This year, we wanted to return to our roots, which inspired the special blend for Zwanze 2020: Lambic with beetroot!
The beer's color is intensly red, fluorescent even, and the nose is fruity yet quite earthy. The palate is complex, a nice balance between the acidity of the Lambic and the roundness of the beetroot.

26-09-20 // Happy Zwanze Day 2020 at Mon Petit Café, Stuttgart. Draft Craaazy :D in a positive way. Beetroot is crazy and intensive in this Zwanze. Different. Crazy. But interesting. Not much lamib aromas actually. So much beetroot. Light vinegar. Crazy.

0,3l from tap at Ma Che Siete Venuti a Fà. Dark Reddish color, medium big pink head. Smells of beets, bit sourish, grassy. OK smell, beets are kinda dominating. Medium body, light carbonation. Tastes of beets, beet salad, grassy, earthy, light funk, horse radish. Finishes rather dry and medium sour with notes of beers, beet salad and notes of horse radish. Hmm, I have a bit of a love / hate relationship with beets, so as expected this is not a favorite of mine. Well-executed and on point, just not my kind of thing. 6,4,6,3,10
Rerate: 0,75l from bottle at the brewery. Smells of beet root, beet root salad. Ok smell. Medium body, soft carbonation. Tastes of beet root, spices, peppery, slight funk. Finishes dry and medium sour with notes of beet root, peppery and light funk. Okish, better then at zwanze.

Tap @ TapTap, Tallinn. Poured beetroot in color. Everything here is mostly beetroot and earthyness. Sourness and even more beetroot. Did not really work for me.

Tap. Crow Inn, Sheffield. Had one, then immediately had another. Colour of beetroot juice. Satisfyingly persistent, white foam. Nose has all the dust and cobwebs you need, with a load of fruit, and distinctive earthy beetroot. Taste is crisp and dry. Touch of tartness. Decent body with foamy carbonation. Minimal acidity. Quenching finish. Lovely beer.

Tap. Deep ruby color with pink head. Aroma is beetroot salad, full blown. Taste is full blown beetroot indeed, nice balance, just a bit of a mineraly bite in the back. Promises made, promises kept - considering I don't generally like beetroot this is ridiculously drinkable.

On tap @Ma che siete venuti a fà (Rome). Color barbabietola, mediamente torbida, schiuma bianco-rosata medio-leggera. Naso vegetale, con note terrose, limone, mela annurca. In bocca è equilibrata, con acidità presente ma bilanciata, sul finale ancora terrosa e leggermente vegetale. Corpo medio, carbonazione media. Sgraziata, deludente.

Un bonheur que d'avoir pu, dans le malheur du covid, déguster cette Zwanze sans devoir faire face à une foule d'américains à Bruxelles ou d'une file interminable ou de pouvoir espérer trouver un ticket pour la bière.
Une couleur pourpre qui correspond tout à fait à celle d'un jus de betterave rouge marquée par un col tenace tout autant sur le pourpre.
Arôme prend de suite avec des effluves marquées de betterave - on peut y découvrir aussi un côté un peu terreux/racine - rappelant les balades en campagne à la période de récole des betteraves. Le tout sur des effluves de funk - brett petite pointe citrique et de barrique.
Palais est marqué par la betterave laissant une petite note épaisse en bouche le tout agrémenté par le côté funk. Sécheresse de fin de bouche avec une acidité plaisante. La betterave perdure tout au long et devient assez pour un verre.
Plaisamment surpris par cette Zwanze

Draft at BMT - Hackney. Pours blood red with a creamy, pink head. Lovely, true beetroot character, mellow tartness, some earthy notes, grape skins. Medium bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Quenching finish, clean acidity, more juicy and earthy beetroot character. I like beetroot and I honestly love this.
