AB:16, our latest concept beer, is a smooth and luxuriant Belgian Quad infused with coffee beans. On the nose you might find warming clove and nutmeg, cafe au lait, subtle dark fruit notes, and hints of candied lemon peel.

The combination of aromas evokes malt loaf or ginger cake. On the palate, smooth & fruity espresso, milk chocolate, and warm brandy-soaked currants are in the middle of a high-class dance-off off against the spicy and peppery Belgian character. the mouthfeel is smooth and rich, and the beer pours a deep copper colour.

Malts:Extra pale, munich, crystal, chocolate, wheat

Tap at Beer Hunters. Deep ruby color, small white head. Sweet prunes, a bit ryeish aroma. Medium-bodied to full-bodied. Belgian abt flavor. Sweetish, prunes and dates. Toffee. Sahti-like! Light alcohol but somewhat mellow. Interesting. Not bad.

Draught @ Olut Expo Finland 2014
Aroma has licorice, toffee, some roastiness, ripe fruits and some biscuits. Like a very sweet bread like limppu. Flavour has very sweet malty tones, raisins, plums, some spices and alcohol. Also somewhat unpleasant cardboard on some sips. Quite nice slow sipper still.

Pours dark brown with a small head. Aroma of ripe fruits, raisins, wood, coffee, malts and yeast. Taste is sweet, stuffy and ripe fruity with notes of coffee, raisin, wood and yeast. Finish is a bit stuffy and sticky with some hints of coffee, toffee and yeast. Okay.

One-third pint, keg at BrewDog Shepherds Bush, where the beer was served at a pleasant drinking temperature. Thin off-white head, nice crocheted lacing down the glass. Clear mahogany coloured body. Aromas of earthy malts, caramel, and dried fruits. Well blended jam-like taste of dried fruits, chocolate, and toffee. Long-lived aftertaste warming down the throat. Lovely (London 24.09.2014).

Bottle from Brewdog Online, consumed at Crystal Palace Campsite, London, Thursday 2nd October 2014. I am pouring in a very dark environment so not 100% sure of colour, but it looks clear, mmhhh..perhaps it’s a bit reddy amber. I haven’t got a clue what the style is as I didn’t bother checking, but its clearly very strong and tastes like a continental style, maybe a hybrid as it tastes a little wheaty. Its quite sugary with dark mollasses, some overipe banana. Touch flatish in mouth. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov14 3.4

Bottle Shared at my Summer Plunder Tasting by Brian. 10.1% A dark ruby amber pour with a chewy caramel malt aroma. Lots of dates, prunes, caramel very smooth delicious fruity goodness. Malty caramel bitter goodness, not terribly complex compared to other abstrackts but interesting.

Bouteille 37.5cl, #7879/16250, bottled on 11/03/2014. For the price, 15€, I’d prefer to stick to a good Belgian quad. This is pure rip-off.

12/IX/14 - 37.5cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home tasting with Sebletitje - bottled: 11/III/14, #7879/16250 (2014-997) Thanks to Sebletitje for sharing the bottle!

Clear amber to purple beer, small irregular off-white to light beige head, little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of banana, bit metallic, caramel, bubble gum, smells just like a La Trappe Quad if you ask me. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: some bitter chocolate, bit of liquorish, banana, some bitter hops, slightly sourish, dried fruits. Aftertaste: bit sweet, caramel, green banana, bit metallic, green hops, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, sugary. Ridiculously expensive!

375ml bottle from Stirchley Wines and Spirits, although been in my beer cupboard for a while. Colour in cola black with a tiny head. Aroma has chocolate toffee and cake. Taste is a sticky toffee pudding, nice warmth from the alcohol. Love it.

(Bottle, 0.375 l - bottled on 11/03/14 - bottle #14950, at William K Kurvi, 20140830) The beer poured brown and clear. Its head was medium sized and almost white. Aroma had chocolate, burnt porridge and caramel. Palate was rather full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, Belgian style yeast, aniseed and bitterness. Aftertaste had booze and bitterness. Yet another confusing brew from Brewdog. A beer reminding me of a morning when I fail to cook a porridge will get lower rating.
