Texturée aux goûts de caramel, tourbe, chocolat et de malts subtilement fumés, cette scotch ale rend hommage aux délicieux whiskys, qui tirent leur caractère distinctif des multiples tonalités vivifiantes de la tourbe. Elle aurait pu être une bière toute désignée pour réchauffer les familles irlandaises embarquées à bord d’un petit voilier à deux mâts nommé le Carrick, en 1847 à Sligo en Irlande, fuyant la Grande Famine, en direction de l’Amérique.
En 1847, le 28 avril, le navire ballotté par une mer en furie, subissant neiges et vents, vient s’échouer sur les récifs de Cap-des-Rosiers.

Draft at Le Saint-Bock, Montreal. Pours dark amber with a light beige head. Malty nose. Taste is malt, toffee, caramel, peat notes, oak. Good.

En Fût à L’Autre Œil. Caramel aux accents de butterscotch avec jujube, mélasse et petit fumé en attaque, suivi d’une finale terreuse. Bonne scotch ale mais j’en ai bu de meilleures.

Dunkel rötlichbraunes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch röstmalzig, fruchtig, würzig. Geschmack angenehm röstmalzig, würzig, Karamell, reife Früchte.

Bouteille 50cl, Bottled on 19/03/2013, lot# 417. Cuivrée, crémeux café au lait. Arôme offre un très beau bouquet fruité noir aux notes de cerise noire, raisin sec, prune. Malté tout autant sympa avec ci et là des effluves alternant caramel, pâle, noisette? et léger côté tourbe oscillant sur un léger fumé. Palais est fruité noir fermenté, côté caramel - pâle, petite note tourbe. Solide mélange avec ce côté fumé, fruité noir enivrant. Effervescence modérée, léger grillé et biscuité. Amertume modérée. Le tout est surprenant très bien ficelée surtout au niveau de l’agencement fruité noir et malts. Juste dommage que au final 50cl est un peu de trop à boire tout seul.

Bottle: Poured a hazy deep amber color ale with a large light brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of deep caramelized sugar and light toffee notes with light dried fruit ester. Taste is also dominated by deep caramelized malt notes with some toffee notes with light dried fruits notes. Sweetness level is well balanced. Body is full with limited filtration and good carbonation with no apparent alcohol. I usually like my scotch ale with some peat notes but still very enjoyable with great drinkability.

A reddish brown ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, a musty and caramel malt, butterscotch, dusty and weird. In mouth, a sweet herbal carmal with grassy hops, roasted nuts, a bit harsh. On tap at Braise et Houblon, June 19 2011.
