Pours black, small layer of tanned bubbles for a foam. Scent is very intense, soy, roasty, Mild oak. Sherry is hidden. Taste is full, roasty, midlly bitter, very sweet, soy-heavy. Mild barrel, sherry is hidden. A very nice impirial stout, but nothing overly specific or great. Fullbodied, lower carbo. Some slick sweet finish, very nice maltprofile, little soy, traces of PX (or is it my imagination?)

Svart med lyst brun skum. Lukter svisker, mokkabønner, cherry. Smaker svisker, mørk sjokolade, lakris. Samme som normal nordic noir når det gjelder kullsyre. Livlig🙂. Noe mykere avslutning.

Dark brown beer, no head. Perfumey, wood, sweet alcoholic aromas. Young oak, vanilla, sweet raisins-filled sausage. Warming up, the sherry appears, and the whole becomes more fruity. Chewy, syrupy, "hot"being euphemistic. Certainly an addition to the base beer, if not necessarily better (nose excepted).

Bottle: Poured a dark murky brown color ale with a medium size dark brown foamy head with limited retention and some minimal lacing. Aroma of caramelized malt with some residual sugar notes with some juniper notes and some other spices also noticeable with some strong sherry notes rounding all the flavours. Taste is a complex mix of plums and other residual sugar notes with some juniper notes some chocolate malt and caramelized notes with some residual sugar notes with some very nice sherry notes. Body is full with good carbonation with some warming alcohol notes also discernible. Solid and complex beer with minimal reference point to compare to and sherry notes also brings an extra dimension to this beer.

On tap at Bakgården Både&. Tasted side by side with the regular Nordic Noir. It’s close to black in the glass, with a dense beige head that lasts and leaves curtains. Nice aroma indeed, with the same honey, coffee, brown sugar and alcohol as in the straight edition. It’s more vinous though, with hints of cellar, vanilla and almond. Roasted malts and caramel too of course. It’s warming and sweet on the palate, really soft, and actually the regular one felt warmer. A touch of tannins too, and in the finish a pleasant bitterness chimes in. As the temperature raises slightly, the flavor and mouthfeel feel more rounded and softer, like if the malts weren’t as heavily roasted. Both coffee and chocolate flavors feel smoother, and the vinous, woody notes mellow as well. Lasting finish with more focus on brown sugar and chocolate than initially. Sure delicious, but even though I think I prefer the regular edition over this one, I gave them the same score. 201015
