As far as ginger based ales go this one is not overbearing and has a pleasant aftertaste.

[Cask at Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading] Deep amber, moderate off-white head. Rich, oaky aroma. Sumptuous toffee and vanilla on the initial taste, but then it feels watery (I assume as a result of the ABV being reduced for this version?). The ginger is restricted to a slight tingle in the back of the throat, which seems to have little to do with the flavour of the underlying beer. Itโs a bit of a rating dilemma - the underlying beer is great and still shines through, but the low ABV and ginger have done no favours at all to it. However, the changes have a small enough impact that itโs still a decent beer.

Cask at the Claude du Vall (JDW), Camberley. A half-hearted attempt at a ginger beer. A pretty reddish copper colour with a tight cream head, but an aroma of ground ginger; the taste is sweet and malty with a dusting of ground ginger; the finish lacks the warming feeling you get froma good ginger, but is harshly dry.

Cask @ Crystal Palace, JDW. Amber colour, off-white head. Aroma is light caramel and a bit fruity. Flavour is caramel malts, a bit hoppy, hint of ginger. A bit watery, but at least the ginger is not overpowering. Slightly sweet finish.

Cask at Westgate JDW Canterbury. Brown copper clear. Thin beige head. Ginger aroma. A little thin in mouth. Soapy ginger finish. Pretty terrible to be honest. Yes soap detergent.

Cask at the Tyburn, JDW. Clear, deep copper with a filmy head. Sweet ginger aroma, like ginger ale soda. First taste is very similar to a giner soda, slightly bitter and raw, with medium sweetness. Light to medium in body with fine carbonation. A bit more "beer" taste in the finish, some bread and earth. A lingering impression of gingerbread. Not bad.

Cask at The Crown Wetherspoons, Berkhamsted, Herts. A red/amber coloured pour with a medium white head. Aroma of ginger. Tasted exactly like ginger ale to me, fruity, ginger, almost like a kids drink. Disappointing.
