Willemoes Stout is a powerful and full-bodied top-fermented beer with a flavour of chocolate and coffee, arising from the use of toasted malt. Pleasant bitter aftertastes.
The elegant dark colour of the beer is owing to the use of dark-toasted malt.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 05. Black beer with thin beige head. OK dark malts. Bit of stale malt in mouth and overall a bit dull. Finish was a bit thin too.

(Bottle 50 cl) Very dark if not completely black, with a small brownish head. Surprisingly ligh-bodied and easily drinkable. Weak notes of coffee and a slightly roasted character. Sort of a Stout Light. 130904

Bottled (BB 12/2005)
Dark ruby, almost opaque color, decent tanned head. Aroma has roasted malts, cold coffee and tobacco. Quite thin. Roasted with hints of licorice. Bitterness mentioned in the description is quite nonexistent, more oily coffee aftertaste. Not too bad anyhow, seems a bit underestimated here.

The aroma is chokolate and grape!, and it is a beatifull beer, but is has a harsh bitter finish. The carbonation is to lively and the finish a bit metallic, maybe this beer will be better after a few years in the cellar!

Dark red brown, creamy, not very stable, brown head. A bit roast coffee in the aroma, but also dark sugary notes and a hint burned vegetables. Burned toast and caramelized sugar dominate the flavor. Rather lightbodied, fizzy mouthfeel. Burned sweet aftertaste. Rather poor stout.

Bottle. Very dark brown colour. Light head that doesn’t last long. Flavour is light but pleasant. Roasted but not very complex. 5 3 6 3 13
Bottle, 6.0%. Roasty, but not very bitter. Malty, dark bread notes. But quite watery, especially for the ABV. 5 3 5 3 12

(500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. ABV was 6.0%). Very dark reddish brown colour, moderate tan head. Moderate coffee aroma. Flavour and aftertaste is lightly roasted coffee and wet cardboard with a hint of damp basement and catpiss. I’m not particularly fond of wet cardboard and catpiss. I’d probably still prefer this beer to Vestfyen’s pilsener, but that doesn’t take much. As far as stout goes, there are better alternatives.

Vestfyen gets points for trying, but although this might be their best beer, it’s nothing out of the ordinary. And at the price there are many beers I’d rather drink. And ordinary stout with no personality.
