Back by popular demand, our infamous barleywine with enough horsepower to propel a royal carriage and enough elegance to be sipped by bitcoin billionaires and dot.com kings. Aged in oak barrels like fine wine and even finer cognac, it’s a balmy aperitif for dark winter days. Don’t let the can fool you, our cuvee is a gentleman’s beer. So be gentlemanly.

Can from the brewery webshop Haarlem, Netherlands and consumed at home Saturday 1st May 2021. We were sat outside in front of the Wood Oven, under the front porch area as it was raining heavy, we had Fish Burgers with white Cod and Smoked Salmon, with a Cream Cheese and Sweet Mustard Cream and a Egg and Caper Relish, also Loz made some excellent Ciabatta Rolls, after a while headed indoors and watched Innocent on Netflix. Pours brown with an off white head. Light fruity nose, with some molasses, however it's a subtle aroma. Super sweet, molasses show again, some sticky dark cake fruits. Boozy, not that smooth, not so interesting, in fact it's a tad dull.

Can from Deconinck. Hazy red-amber, small, foamy, tan head. Aroma of red grape, raisin, date, wet wood, fudge, biscuit, liqueur, pear. Taste has sweet raisin, grape & pear over toffee-like, bit biscuity maltiness; phenolic, bit herbal & woody in the middle. Herbal hoppy finish, spicy, lingering sweetness of toffee & ripe red fruits, warming brandy alcohol. Full body, oily texture, soft carbonation. The 'Cuvee' is somewhat exaggerated, but this is a fine, almost 'go-to' Barley Wine.

Sweeter version, but not too boozy, balanced well, good hop aroma and not a lot of bitterness. Unique beer, very good. Online saveurbier

Clear mahogany brown with lasting thin head. Aroma and flavour have an interesting top note of caramelised pineapple. Quite light and juicy for a barley wine. Not overly sticky or malty. Elements of toffee apple.

Can. Light amber pour. Aroma of sweet raisin, white grape, caramel, mosaic hops, onion, caramelised malt, figs and dates. Taste is very malty, with also white grape, raisin, vanilla, caramel, figs, dates, some yeast, mosaic hops, peach and pineapple. Strange beer, malty and caramely, but also tropicaly hopped. I like it.

Can. Almost clear darkish amber beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Smooth airy palate, slightly soft and mildly dry. Decent fine carbonation. Soft malts, sweetish. A little creamy sweetness with a mild soft caramel and a trace of vanilla oak. A bouncy soft and fairly rich fruitiness here. It's a generic kind of fruitiness, touch of bourbon, but I don't think this is bourbon barrelled. An unusual soft Cola vibe. Smooth finish. Fruity and drinkable but wants a bit more of something. Maturity definitely and depth, something to give contrast to the big ripe frutiness, still a pleasing beverage.
