Pours dark brown, looks very dark brown to black in the glass, with reddish hints if seen through light. Small to medium sized greyish head, recedes a bit too quickly and leaves little lacing. Quite good intensity in the aroma with a soft sugary (brown sugar) base and a bit of caramel; roasted notes in check in the overall balance but still quite expressive: dark bread, soft dark chocolate, a bit of coffee. Perhaps a hint of spiciness on the back of things. Taste notes more or less follow the aroma but the sugary component gets a bit too dominant and the roasted notes get quite subdued (coffee, especially, is barely detectable, which is surely not expected in a coffee stout). Taste intensity is still quite good. Quite some sweetness per style, partially compensated by not too timid dark malts acidity; still leaning towards sweetness, though not unpleasantly so. Medium to dense in body, not as dense as expected for the abv. Average, soft-bubbled carbonation. A semi-full, rather soft mouthfeel. A very typically belgian strong stout, with some highs and some lows; sort of liked it, but it didn't feel fully accomplished.

Bottle picked up from Belgium a few years ago (certainly aged by me) probably 4-5 years old and consumed at home with Lynn and Barry Thursday 20th March 2025, shared with Barry. We had homemade Schnitzel and Chips for tea and listening to a playlist on Tidal that I'd put together earlier. Pours murky and quite thin looking dark brown edging towards black, however practically no carbonation and no head. Fruity, tangy and a sour stout, not a complete surprise because these guys make a very decent saison, but this for me is not that great. A little bit of dandelion and burdock in the background, it's not a bad beer but too thin, no carbonation, a little more sour than expected. Actually I am not that bothered about this, hello sink...

Pours almost opaque black, with a rocky light beige head that has good retention, Sweet chocolate, some red fruit, a bit cola in the nose. Retronasal it's roasted, sweetish, quite fruity (sourish almost). Flavour is light moderate sweet and light roasty bitter, with a hint of fruity sourness. Body is medium at best, a bit on the thin side actually. Flavour linger, bitterness and roast increase a bit.

Draft at Snallygaster 2024. Poured a pitch black color with a small tan head. Aroma was an immediate blast of coffee, roasted chocolate malts. Barrel? Vanilla, woody, coffee is pleasant stuff in this one.

75cl bottle from Geers - shared with Anton, Carl & Nicolas, cheers! Hazy black, stable, foamy, beige head. Aroma of coffee pad, mocha, black pepper, toast, iron, old fondant, blackberry. Taste has sweetish blackberry & raisin in a toasty and fondant-like malt body with dusty, herbal, earthy edges and a bitter coffee note. Earthy hops in the finish, lingering coffee (grounds rather than bean), toasted nuts and subtle vodka-like alcohol. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Enjoyable dry, 'old' Stout.

375mL bottle from Beer Temple, drunk 2/9/24. Medium-sized, light-tan head sits at 2 cm. Dark, crystal clear, with mahogany and ruby highlights. Uhh, is that green bell pepper? Am I smelling correctly? I mean...that's what it smells like. The unmistakable coffee-gone-bad bell pepper nose. Except there's no coffee here. Oh wait, there is! Yikes. Whatever the case, it absolutely dominates the nose. I don't get anything else and sadly, no yeast signature/character. Heavy, sharp, intense roast character. I guess the nose is just a manifestation of that intense roastiness. Tons of carbonation, good, medium body with strong maltiness, moderate sweetness and reasonable attenuation. Though it could be drier. Milk chocolate, caramel, light vanilla, moderate roast, tapering off a bit as the beer breathes. No alcohol or flaw, but, I don't know, this is most definitely not the Blaugies with which I grew up and fell in love. The yeast, while not tacky or crude, is almost no where to be found. Just some faint plaster/mineral on the finish.
