In February 2018 we produced a black wort using Maris Otter, dehusked black malt and oats. Fermentation took place in freshly emptied red Bordeaux barrels for 14 months. Finally, the beer was blended and refermented with organic local blackcurrants and muscovado sugar for eight months.

Bottle thanks to Dan. It pours cloudy deep purple with a thick tan head. The aroma is sweet - sour, juicy, tangy, plum, fizzy, candy, sugary, jammy, dirty, d&b and Dr pepper. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Fulsome and moreish. Impressed.

Opaque dark purple beer, small yellow lish tan head. Smooth palate, airy and semi dry, decent fine carbonation. Soft creamy malts. Mellow berry fruits, a very mild tartness develops on the back end. Fairly dry finish. Nice enough.

Bottle at home in Hackney - picked up from Red Hand. Pours brown with a billowing, frothy pink-khaki head. Lightly sweet with sturdy acidity, leathery dark fruits, sturdy funk, earth, old wood, lemony tang. Medium bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Quenching finish, fairly dry, a bit of toasted oak, more old leathery dark fruits, dried berries, earth, light roast, good funk. Nice depth and quite drinkable given the ABV. Excellent.

Bottle. Very dark brown color with a purple haze. Slight gusher. Roast and blackberries in the aroma, sweet, roasty flavor with blackberries and moderate, but persistant sourness. Tannines. Surprisingly well balanced.
