Bottle thanks to allmyvinyl. Appearance - opaque black with a nice head. Nose - molasses, tar as the man says, toffee and chocolate too. Taste - liquorice or tobacco. Then hazelnuts, dark chocolate, tar again. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - a nice interesting beer.

6th Feb 2015: large sample at the 3rd De Bierboom (Brugge) beer exchange. Still early when this arrived at my table: very dark pour with loads of coffee and chocolate notes in both the aroma and taste. This is a bitter Stout with no hints of ’Milk’ anywhere within it’s make up. We are talking black coffee, dark chocolate and crushed nuts here. Pleasant and different, thanks who ever brought it (I was the only RateBeer user there, I think).

(Cask at Southampton Arms, Gospel Oak, London, 27 Nov 2014) Black colour with hints of ruby. Brief beige head. Malty, roasted nose with black coffee, dark chocolate, tar and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, dark bread, a touch of tar and smoke, and a generous roasted bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Well made and tasty stout. Very nice.

Bottle. A thick, finger-thick light tan to dark beige head forms over a dark, dark brown body that is almost clear. Tar, umami, some coffee and chocolate, caramel and nuts in the aroma. Some burnt sugar. It’s medium bodied and smooth on the palate, sweetish yet not cloying. Roasted malt kind of bitterness and some burnt notes in the finish. Caramel, tar hints, umami meatyness, coffee and some chocolate in the flavor. Pretty nice this one, but a tad sweet. And it could use some more body I think. 140815
