This is a traditional porter, made to warm the bones. Nearly black in color, Stovepipe Porter has a rich palate and a roasted, hoppy and slightly herbal aroma.

Pours mahogany into a shaker. Tan head quickly dissipates to oil surface. Chocolate aromas. Roasted espresso with a dry, thin lasting smoke finish.

Bottle from Porterhouse! Aroma has yeast and ciffee malt; Clear dark brown with a medium tan head; coffee and chocolate faxor but the body is thin. Decent but not great.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy, and roasty malts with a light chocolate undertone. The flavor was moderately dry and gritty with a moderately strong roasty malt base and light hints of chocolate and coffee. The finish is sour and bitter.

Bottle: Poured a medium black color porter with a big foamy head with pretty good retention. Aroma of coffee is dominating and provide an interesting edge to this porter. Taste is a well balance mix between roasted malt and coffee. Body is a bit light and carbonation is too lively for the style IMHO. Good offering overall and something that I wouldn’t mind drinking again. Original score 3.5 Re-rate January 2007 - More choclate notes then I remembered and slightly more complex. 3.7

Very dark brown pour with a khaki colored head. Full bodied, dry taste but not overwhelmed by the alcohol. Other breweries would go heavy on the smoke, but Otter Creek does it right and let’s the subtle roasted flavor mix with hints of toffee and nuts.

12 oz. bottle, Bottle date 6/27/05, Lot #1739. Pours a lovely deep brown with a brown head. Keen smell of deep coffee roast malt. This is a good example of one of my favorite styles. Malt aplenty, and a pick of hops that throws in a bit more bitter than is standard. Dark roast malts give it a good impression of dryness. A little light in the expected coffee and chocolate taste after smelling it, but it’s still another great find. Picked it up at the Wild Oats store in Hinsdale, IL

2004 bottle at Julios Spring Beer Fest, 4/02/05. Dark brown body, with dark auburn highlights and a small, but moderately well-retained, yellow head. Aroma of black malted roast, bitter chocolate, earthiness and grainy, husky malt. Little, if any hops in the nose. Flavor is dry, with roasted peanuts, bakers chocolate and light caramel. Light fruitiness coming from the yeast or hops, not sure, with a slight tinge of floral bitterness on the end. Light brown sugar, somewhat bittersweet, however, lingers on the finish. Only a medium body, though, with moderate carbonation.

This beer is a dark brown color with a medium thick and foamy light tan head. Thin rings of lacing. The aroma is pretty good, roasted coffee and malt. Medium-bodied but watery at times. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate flavors. The finish has a pretty steady bitter hops flavor and lingers well. Aside from the watery aspect this is a pretty good Porter.

Pour is a almost black. Can still see through it when held up to light. Aroma is roasted malts with some chocolate. Flavor is chocolate with a stong coffee aftertaste. Middle of the road porter. Nothing that will knock your socks off but worthy of a taste.
