Amber, generous, with bronze highlights. Great aromatic intensity, with notes of nuts and candied fruits in the bouquet, slightly spicy. Particularly soft and elegant body, with excellently balanced hints of malt, caramel and hops. A beer that distinctly leaves its mark.

Amber colour. Not much life in terms of carbonation or head. The aroma is very chewy, earthy, caramelly with a splash of alcohol late. Very sweet, with caramel and an almost liquoricey back note. Quite estery like canned peaches and pears. Finishes fairly sweet and with a heavy-handed alcohol presence.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a small, off-white head and a hazed bronze body. Head retreats to a ring quickly. Aroma of rotten fruit, banana esters, chocolate, vanilla, and sugar. Taste is chocolate, slightly astringent with banana esters, and rotten orange. Lively bubbles, watery mouthfeel. Some alcohol on the palate.

Courtesy of fishingnet. It looks like they half assed this beer since it is only 10% ABV and not 10.1%. Pours copper with gold edges and tiny off white head. The aroma is sweet malts, molasses, butter scotch and a bit of dark fruitiness. Nice. The taste is rich and sweet with an even mix of dark fruitiness, molasses and malt sweetness. It also attains a semi thin mouth feel. Tasty stuff that doesn’t hint at the sub 10.1% ABV at all. It seems like a 7% beer.

courtesy of fishingnet Pours golden, white head. Aroma had another signature Italian, nutty with notes of caramel malts. Taste is nutty, grainy, malty with light floral hops and pine. Sugary mouthfeel. Would have never guessed this is a 10% abv. Good stuff.

Bottle from Sunset Grill drunk Summer 2008. I guess it really dosent matter if this is listed as a Doppelbock (as it was previously) or if the brewery intended it to be a doppelbock, because it isn’t and is certainly a poor example of the style. Frankly, it dosent matter what it’s listed as, the beer is so heavily flawed. Weak, watery pour with very little head showing, clear and filtered and a maroon-beige colored body. Nearly infected smelling, with off-putting bacterial and/or strange mineral notes. Some alcohol in the nose and a light dose of caramel. The flavor is very washed out, with a watery mouthfeel and too much alcohol on the finish. Nearly tart in flavor with raisins, plums and red fruit-like notes from the yeast, I assume? Caramel-raisin maltiness is undone by the alcohol cutting through it, while more tartness shows up on the finish. A sort of spoiled fruit tartness, that is....Not my cup of tea, whatever the case, and a seemingly poorly brewed example of whatever it’s trying to be.

bottle - Pours cloudy light brown with a one finger lingering head. The aroma is of yeast and caramel with a little dark fruit. I taste caramel malt and a little alcohol. This is a sweet brew that is a little watery and has light carbonation. It is pretty good but not good enough to seek out.

Not a lot to say about this. It was disappointed. Brown color. No hop presence in this beer. Aroma has malt. Flavor has Belgian yeast and lightly sweet malt. On the dry side for a Belgian strong. Thin palate.

0.5 l bottle. Poured dark reddish brown body with medium bigger brownish head that went away at medium pace. Sourish to sweet malty aroma, some Belgian yeast character, but not quite typical for the style. Flavor thin bodied at first glance, but turns to be very pleasant and rich actually. Sweetish, dominated by some dark sweet berry fruits, with of course lot of caramel and even a bit of chocolate. And, alcohol is not felt at all. Pleasant, long sweetish fruity finish. Liked this one quite much, but definitely not even near the best that style can offer.
