Clear deep brown coloured body with ruby highlights and a nice tan head. Aroma of roaste malt, nuts, caramel, toffee, nutmeg and a light dose of hops. Medium-bodied; Strong nuttiness up front with some malt and light spice behind .Aftertaste shows some nuts, nutmeg, roastie malt flavours and a bit of alcohol. Overall, not such a great beer and not a great scotch in my mind...it lacks a lot of complexity, flavour and of course - originality. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from K&E Discount Beverage in New Paltz, New York on 02-May-2007.

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a dark brown color ale with a small foamy head with average retention. Aroma of big sweet malt with a very subtle note of peat malt. Taste of rich sweet caramel malt with some peat notes and some warming alcohol. Body is a bit thin for the style and less filtration would have benefited this beer IMHO. Alcohol is present and warming but really does fit well and it didn’t bother me.

Malty, whiskey like aroma. Nose of roasted malt, coffee and maple. Poured a dark brown with maple colored hues around the edges with very little white watery head. Very malty flavor, nutty, maple and sweet. Caramel and coffee notes. Syrupy and slightly soapy on the palate.

A pretty standard scotch ale, with a kind of artificial sweetness and a homebrew-like quality that makes it less enjoyable - kind of dry despite the sweetness, with a smoked malt and chocolate finish that is probably the most enjoyable part.

Bottle from Dan (jah noth), now labeled simply "Kilt Tilter" and arriving in at 9.0% ABV! Deep red body, medium light tan head. A liquid garnet. Caramely aroma with berries and hints of cola, with notes of cherry and yeasty earthiness as well. Hits with bitter, dense toasty notes, opening up into caramels and sweet, candied berries and cherries. The alcohol kicks in and enhances delicate balance between bitter and sweet. Complex yet subtle; this beer isn’t about slamming one’s palate with ridiculous overhopping or sickly sweet, unfermented malts. If this was a blind tasting, I’d be just as likely to peg this as a Belgian Strong Ale than as a Scotch Ale. This is the perfect Christmas beer, and the perfect beer for winter in general, if you live in a place where snow drapes itself across the landscape and chestnuts were once roasted over the open fire, before the blight hit. But, wait, those are English chestnuts...nevermind. In any event, do yourself a favor and find this beer. Many thanks to Dan for this most surprising treat!

Tilter is a dark, ruby lit, brown beer that holds it’s rocky, off-white head for a wee bit. Warm, nutty, caramel aroma. Spicy sweet with notes of licorice and coffee. Creamy, full, smooth palate. Not bad.

TAP- Deep brown with a raisiny, fruity aroma, with malted balls. Matl and alcohol marry well with the fruity sweetness, with scotch qualities. Very nice woddy nutty notes, and good body.
