On tap at the brewery. Rousse is a scottish style red ale, currently their biggest seller on draft. a solid beer in one of my least favorite styles. It is a clean deep red amber, malty sweet but balanced. 

Évaluation no. 109 Août 2011. Couleur rousse. Mousse d’épaisseur moyenne. Caramel léger au nez. Attaque fumée. Bonne présence de malt. Amertume moyenne. Douce en général. Moyenne.

Purchased in their mixed 12-pack (Gamme sympathique 12 Mixte). Pours a dark amber colour with a big semi-creamy beige head that stays a long time and leaves patchy lacing. Lots of cereal grain aromas with caramel malts and fruit notes. The mouthfeel starts off medium-bodied but ends up very thin in the end. Kind of weird and disappointing that it does not last longer, stronger. The taste is not as intense as the smell (too bad). Mildly fruity with hints of nuts in the finish and a little hop showing in the aftertaste. Nothing really bad and overly decent. Just lacking a bit of strength in some categories.

A copper amber ale with a thin lacing off white to mocha head. In aroma, a herbaceous malt with light fruity esters, so-so. In mouth, a sweet treacle malt with very faint hops, watery bodied, nutty notes, very boring. On tap at Vices et Versa as Irish Red Ale, Dec. 16 2011.

Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with a nice foamy head with OK retention and some good lacing. Aroma of dry caramelized malt with lingering sweetness is interesting. Taste is also mostly dominated by caramelized malt notes with light sweet notes. Body is about average with nice creamy texture and good carbonation. No brewing flaws but nothing extraordinary about this one.

Bouteille 341ml. De couleur cuivrée foncée et claire. Nez malté de caramel aux notes rôties, léger de noix avec des notes de sucre brûlé, de butterscotch et de fruits (confitures de fraises). Moyenne-mince en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-fort et une texture légèrement minérale et aux faibles notes crémeuses. Notes fruitées (moût de petits fruits) accompagné de traces de pain grillé lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute rapidement un goût malté de caramel légèrement rôti et aux faibles notes terreuses ainsi que des traces de biscuits et de butterscotch puis en finale l’on retrouve une très légère amertume de houblon herbeux (herbes mouillées) avec des notes de noix asséchantes. Post-goût moyen et un peu sec, légèrement amer de rôti et de houblon herbeux avec des notes de noix.
