Half, cask at Stockbridge Tap. Crystal clear, dark amber body. Thin ring around the rim of the glass leaving fragile lacing behind. Smell of plain sweet malts. Toffee malts in flavour followed by a decent, dry bitter ending. Medium bodied (Edinburgh, 28.11.2010).

(Cask at City Arms, Manchester, 25 July 2009) Dark amber colour with creamy, off-white head. Malty, slightly fruity nose with notes of orange, caramel and earthy hops. Malty, fruity taste with orange peel, a solid malt foundation and earthy hops in the finish. Excellent balance between malt and hops. Solid, well made and very nice bitter.

Cask at the Monks Retreat (JDW), Reading. Cloudy copper with a creamy white head; bry and herbal to start the developing a malty orange sweetness; nutty and warming finish. Hard to see why this would be a Champion Beer.

From cask at Charlies. Pours golden deep orange towards brown with a lasting dense off-white head. Light caramel malty aroma. Flavour is solid caramel malt with a slight spice note and sadly also butterish. Very very smooth liqourice note towards the finish. Mild bitterness in the finish.

From cask. Pours clear and golnde deep orange with a small yet dense creamy off-white head. Mild fruity hops aroma. Sweet to citric flavour with a distinct hops profile and acidic finish showing a solid bitterness coming through to the finish. Smooth yet not without a bite.

Cask at JDW The Penny Black, Bicester, Oxon 04-11-07 Pours chestnut in colour with a medium white head, looks great in the glass. Quite strong in taste but lacks complexity some sweet malts and fruitiness in both taste and aroma, to be honest not quite the beer I was hoping for.

Cask-conditioned at the Rake, Southwark 7/9/07. Chestnut coloured with a very slight, short-lived, off-white head. Fruit malt aroma with a touch of hops. Flavour was also fruity before a very long, bitter finish. Good.
