Nissen fortalte oss forleden om den gangen han gjespa på vei ned ei pipe og om hvordan det egentlig ikke smakte så ille som han hadde trodd. Vi lot oss selvsagt rive med av historien hans, og brygget Down the Chimney som en hyllest til høytidens mest hardtarbeidende reinsdyrbonde. Down the Chimney passer både som følgesvenn til julematen og som trøst for myke pakker. Serveres helst ved 10°C – 12°C, gjerne i stettglass.

Bottle from Gulating. Black body with a medium sized, fading tan head. Lovely aroma of dark, roasted malt, ark chocolate and some dry fruit. Flavor is rich dark malt, nice roasted, medium sweet, some dry fruit and pleasant bitterness. Did not find much smoked malt here but its anyway a superb tasty and well balanced stout at only 4,7% ABV. Actually not often to find such a such tasty stout with this kind of balance in this alcohol range. Nice.

330 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 4.7%. Black colour, moderate tan head. Aroma of roast malts, some vinous hints, moderate peat smoke. The flavour is slightly dry with roasty and smokey notes, also a moderate fruitiness with hints of prunes. Moderate bittering hops.

0,33 flaske fra Gulating Stavanger, hjemme mens jeg lager breiflabb-middag på 1.juledag: brunsvart med fint, om enn ikke langvarig skum. Jeg burde jo ha skjønt det på navnet - julenissen kommer seg neppe ned pipa uten at han drar noe røyklukt med seg. For meg er røykmalt den minst sjarmerende malten, men her er den anvendt med conduite og helhetsinntrykket er både julete og velsmakende. Mørke malter, 80%-sjokolader, kakao og altså et akkurat passelig anstrøk av julenissens ferd ned skorsteinen.

330ml bottle from Gulating Ølutsalg, Tromsø. Diminishing tan-coloured head, dotted spots on the glass. Jet black in the glass. Nicely smoked malty aromas. Smoked malty flavours joined by grainy chocolate and hints of dried fruits towards the finish. Fine depth. Smooth on the swallow. Well-crafted. Indeed, a pleasant surprise. (Tromsø 23.12.2018).

Taste is slightly dry sour-ish roasted, weeds, sour-ish roasted grain, burnt toast, minerals, paper, bark, dark malts, cocoa, grass. Medium bitterness, slightly watery and harsh roasted mouthfeel. Fair enough.
