33cl bottles (two) at the Wild Card brewery tap on 28th March 2015. Poured a clear brown with a thin beige head on both bottles. Light maltiness in the nose with some chocolate and earthy traces. Semi-sweet flavour with a mild molasses feel, counted by an almost hidden hop bitterness. Decent enough (hence the two bottles) and worth trying if you see it. Nice blend and put together well.

Bottle shared at Leightons house. Nose is amber malts. Light sweet praline, some light dark fruits. Clear reddish amber colour with thin off white head. Flavour is nutty some twig, semi sweet caramel, some fruity berry, mineral. Drinks pretty good. Palate is semi sweet, moderate carbonation. Like it.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours deep brown with a tiny head. The nose is sweet, juicy, caramel, cola, raisin, candied stuff and fruit cake. The taste is sweet, toasty grain, mild pepper, earth, wood, dusty and leather with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. OK, but maybe tastes a bit old.

From London Beer Market and drunk at home. Dark brown black beer with lasting pale beige head. Malty aroma with just a little roast. More like dry malt. OK in mouth. Some tang. Like spicy malt. Not sure about this. Not that there is anything wrong with it. Just not sure I like the malts. OK.

Bottle at home, from Broadway Wines, 29/05/14. Dark mahogany brown with a well appointed beige covering that stays for the show - a good looking beer. Nose is caramel, light roast, hoppy tones, dark berry fruit, light smoke, hint of creosote. Taste comprises dark malts, chalky minerals, earthy hops, dark fruits, light spice, hint of liqourice, toffee, light roasty tones.. Medium bodied, light spritzy carbonation, hoppy tones and rich dark malt in the close. Solid easy drinking stuff, plenty of character, one of the better beers I’ve had from this style.

Bottle at home in London - picked up at an off-licence in Hackney. Pours clear brown with a frothy, quickly fading beige head. Lightly toasted dark malts in the nose with subtle dry chocolate and scorched earth. Light to medium sweet flavor with smokey dark malts, a bit of burnt earth bitterness, well-toasted wholegrain bread. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Reasonably well balanced to finish with moderate roasted malts, more sugary and charred toast, earth, ash, faint burnt leaves, rocks, just whispers of burnt toffee. Interesting beer. It’s pretty well balanced overall and drinks nicely.
