Had this one back in 2019 at La Pirata Malasaña, a venue that has since disappeared. It came in a wax-sealed black bottle, quite nice. It poured a glossy jet black with a thick, frothy, long-lasting tan head. Aromas of red apple, coffee and smoke. Oily texture, medium carbonation. Not quite crisp, so the bitterness stands out way too much, feeling unbalanced. Medium-lingering finish with hints of coffee. So-so.

33cl bottle from Beerbay, Spain. Pours pitch black, dense, with no foam. Aroma is licorice, barrel ageing. Body is dense, with moderate carbonation. Taste is medium sweet, a little sour. Final has some more sweetness.

Voici l'exemple parfait d'un vieillissement en fût raté et qui massacre la bière de base (qu'il faudrait que j'essaye d'avoir pour la déguster). Cet Blackadder Barrel Aged arrive à cumuler à la fois un effacement quasi total de la base d'Imperial Porter devant les arômes de fût mais également d'avoir des arômes de fût très douteux, agressifs, légèrement aigre. J'aimerais bien savoir quel whisky ils ont utilisé. Du frelaté peut être?.... En verre nous sommes sur un noir total, sans mousse. Au nez, ce sont les arômes de whisky et de fût qui dominent, loin devant le café et le chocolat. C'est binaire, sans variation. Cela perdure à la dégustation, sans finesse, avec un whisky bourrin et même pas réellement appréciable. L’arrière-bouche est même quelque peu aigre. L'alcool fait plus que ses 9,5 %. Le final quant à lui faiblit, ce qui n'est pas plus mal.... Les brasseurs ont il goûté cette bière avant de nous la servir ? Comme je pense qu'ils ont un palais, je pense donc que là ils nous prennent pour des gogos. Je n'ai pas mis 0, mais pour de telles brasseries, ça le mériterait.

On tap at doerak in Delft. I'm very torn with this one... I love la pirata yet this is a bit of a difficult beer. Pours black with a fine sheet of head. Aroma is spot on, dark malts, melasses, caramel, whisky. Some grape and green apple which stands out. Flavour is very mixed. Good malt base, nice sweetness, with caramel, molasses, some roastiness. Just the green apple... it does stand out, even if it gets better as it warms up. The finish on the other hand is outstanding, the whisky balances the malt flavours perfectly. A difficult beer and not one of la pirata's best. Neither bad nor outstanding, just a bit odd. Indeed a shame about the green apple. Better when warm but still odd. Edit: at room temperature the green apple almost disappears and this is a lovely beer. Still some green apple, but no longer intrusive. Upgrade from 3.5 to 3.8.

Can shared at KJUBZT June ‘19. Black with a ring beige head. Aroma of boozy alcohol, oak, licorice, dark chocolate, coffee, port. Flavour is heavy sweet. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

33cl Bottle. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of green apple (Kees-style), molasses, roast. Flavour is full on green apple solvent, glue, roast, booze, fucking awful. I love Pirata, this is bad.

Bottle shared at Zaandam tasting. Black with brown head. Green apple, glue, sweet malts, toffee, chocolate, red wine, port, oxidized chemical boozy notes, whisky. Medium sweet and bitter. Over medium bodied with slick oily feel. Tastes sort of OK, the nose is horrible.

Bottle at KJUBZT. Aroma of boozy whisky, chocolate, red fruit, licorice and caramel. Taste has green apple, chocolate, caramel, red fruit, booze and a boozy finish. The green apple is a shame, but I still like the heavy whisky flavor in between.

Botella 33 CL en cimmeria 12..04.. 2019. (r03) Color negro intenso con espuma beige oscuro que desaparece al poco tiempo casi por completo. Sabores intensos, suaves maltosos y sobredosis de alicorados de whisky, con recuerdos de maderas quemadas, cafés torrefactos, y suaves cacaos. Cuerpo medio a intenso por la fuerte sensación de bourbon y alicorada. Fina y con densidad ligera alicorada. Bastante buena.
