Panda thanks to Cloin. Semi opaque dark brown beer, small bubbly pale tan head. Smooth and semi dry palate, decent fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts with a pretty light mouthfeel. Definite Mars Bar, with a kinda bourbon barrel aged fruity richness. Light semi dry crisp finish. Pretty darn quaffable.

Can at home, from an online peddler whom I cant' recall, 13/05/24. Black with a good sized lasting tan head. Nose is chocolate, coffee bean, dark malts, molasses, spice, toffee fudge. Taste comprises chocolate, dark malts, hint of coffee, caramel, light roast, molasses, toasted brown sugars, light spice. Full bodied, fine massaging carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced spike of alcohol. Solid easy drinking Impy Stout.

Can from HavnensVinOgTobak. Pours opaque dark brownish black with medium light brown head, . Aroma is intense roasted malt, vanilla, chocolate, toffee, cream, coffee, prunes, raisins and hints of soy sauce. Taste is medium to very sweet, light to medium bitter, faint acidic and faint to light salty. Body is creamy with soft carbonation. Finish is long and mostly sweet with intense notes of malt syrup, sweet liquorice, light roasted filter coffee, raisins, prunes, vanilla, chocolate, cream and toffee. Excellently rich and balanced.

Coffee stout variant by this familiar craft brewer in Breda, a typical postmodern flavoured stout referring to affogato, the Italian practice of ‘drowning’ a scoop of vanilla ice cream in hot espresso. Can shared with Isabel. Open, greyish off-white, thin but more or less retaining ring of foam on a black beer with mahogany glow. Aroma of bourbon, chocolate sauce, indeed coffee (espresso) but hardly any vanilla if any, ground hazelnuts, cinnamon, nougat, varnish, shoe polish, bayleaf, caramel liqueur, almond, salmiak. Sweet onset (raisins) with a dash of porcini-like umami, even a vague ‘drop’-like salty hint, softly carbonated, with rounded, oily, caramelly and chocolatey core with nutty edges, a bit thinned by alcohol (or even already by age?), carrying spicy cinnamon-, bayleaf- and black pepper-like accents with no vanilla in sight. Hot, bourbon-like, peppery alcohol, roasty espresso-like bitterness, spicy hops and some mild solventy effects fill the finish, with the roasty bitterness and the booze reinforcing and lengthening each other. Bit too alcoholic perhaps, but otherwise an oldskool ‘impy’, no pastry fantasies here, even if I did miss a touch of vanilla. Was probably more aromatic when it was still young – flavoured stouts are, after all, often not intended for three years of ageing. Still enjoyable enough, though.

33cl can from hopt.it, France. Pours black, fairly dense, with very minimal foam. Aroma is intense of coffee. Body is full and smooth, with limited carbonation, rather soft. Taste is pretty roasty, though with some sweetness too. Final is average.

Bottle share at Hopdog München, Tuesday 9th October 2021 with Ratebeer group and Will from work. Pours black with a filmy beige head. Lots of coffee, a little boozy, I genuinely thought that it was barrel aged but not, nice vanilla, great coffee.

Can at Valhalla, huge thanks Hrabren for sharing with Iznogud, Prof. Bekić and me. Extremely dark brown, brownish tiny head. Soft, sweetish, chocolate, tobacco, light carob, light roastiness. Sweetish chocolate, dry taste, light roast, vague carob, bit nutty, quite creamy, light alcohol. Quite good, but didn't thrill me.
