Bottle. Almost black. Malty, pepper and spicy notes in the aroma. Malty sweet spicy flavor with oak and pepper. Hint of vanilla. Pepper is surprisinglyu well integrated and the beer is well balanced. Cedarwood. Do’nt like peppers, but this beer is good!

01.05.2015, tap @ CBC:
Tiny light brown shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry sour-ish, dark malts, dark berries, ashtray, dark sugar, grass, sour coffee, leather, minerals, caramel. Taste is sour-ish dry, ashtray, leather, grass, burnt caramel, sour coffee, rope, grass, hay, weeds, hints of chili. Medium bitterness, slightly sour-ish harsh mouthfeel. Not my cup of tea.

A black beer with a brown head. The aroma has notes of chocolate, alcohol, and caramel. The flavor is sweet with notes of roasted malt, chocolate, alcohol, and hints of liquorice, leading to a dry roasted finish.

Bottle. Cotteridge Wines, Brum. Clear, very dark brown. Film of tan head. Nose has wood smoke. Cocoa. Phenols. Notes of fudge. Notes of vanilla. Taste is soft sweet. Some woody, dry, burnt bitterness. Ok mouthfeel. A little thin maybe. Light chilli heat. Some acidity, too, especially on the way down. Thin, dry, and bitter finish. The base beer was way better than this, for me.

19/I/16 - 33cl bottle from a trade @ home - BB: n/a, bottled: 18/III/15 (2016-55) Thanks to BenH for the trade!

Clear dark brown to black beer, irregular beige to brown fizzy head, little stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: very peated, caramel, roasted, bit medicinal. MF: soft to no carbon, medium to full body. Taste: bit sweet, lots of peat, sourish, caramel, roasted, some chillies, soft bitterness. Aftertaste: pretty bitter, coffee, dark chocolate, leathery, some caramel, very peated, alcohol, sweet, some chillies in the finish. Peat is overruling most of the subtleties in the deScription, can't find much maple syrup or bacon, and only a hint of chillies. Very decent beer, though...

Review based on the BJCP2015 guidelines (style 33A - base 15B, adapted). Bottle 33 cl - Batch 17 G:B77. AROMA: a mix of roasted malts (coffee) and spicy peppers. barrel presence almost imperceptible. APPEARANCE: dark color and opaque. moderate light brown head with average retention. TASTE: predominant roasted notes (coffee) with chili and a roasted woody background. medium-low bitterness with a semi-dry and spicy finish. PALATE: medium body with a slight velvety texture. slight alcoholic and spicy warmth. OVERALL: a nice blend of characteristics, but some more evident than others.

Bottle shared at Leighton’s place. 25/08/2015. Huge thanks to Leighton. Black dark reddy brown coloured pour with a losse mid tan head. Aroma is big salty earthy roast, toasted coconut and some smokey phenols. Nice whiskey and a little booze. Flavour is full on earthy roast, pinch of salt, little chilli heat in the finish, smoke and dark choc. Palate is medium full bodied, moderate carbonation, warming finish. Really good chilli choc blance.

Bottle thanks to Leighton. It pours dark brown with minimal head. The nose is rich, bitter - sweet, sweet smoke, whisky, intoxicating booze, toffee, light smoke, popcorn, nougat and toasted marshmallows. The taste is smooth, oily, toasty, grainy, light chilli spice, oily smoke, charred wood, meatiness, honey glazed stuff, whisky with a smooth, warming finish. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Interesting, good depth and high quaffability.
