A real coast to coast Canadian collaboration. Copper brown body with a dense, pillowy off-white head. The nose is rich with malt, brown sugar, bubble gum and spritz of lemon. This seems to be about right for a Canadian attempt at an imperial ESB. There is a rich, dark cereal malt which works well with the earthy UK hops (more hops than a European version, I’m guessing). A touch of pepper, citrus and dark fruit, along with some caramel sweetness round out a well balanced taste profile. A solid mouth feel and body cap a very tasty creation.

Nice ruby pour, off white head. Very fruity phenols, nutty malts, and quite bready. Some solid hopping. Quite grassy, and pungent. Reminds me a lot of a boozy English strong ale. Lots it pungent grassy hops, and boozy malts.

Bottle: Poured a dark amber color ale with nice foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of toasted malt with some dry bitter hoppy notes. Taste is also a mix of toasted malt with some caramel note and some hoppy dry bitter notes with quite a bit of residual sugar notes. Body is full with good carbonation. Not bad but too sweet like most Flying Monkeys beers.

Brown Flying Monkeys wine-style bottle from the LCBO. Pours a clean deep amber colour with a ruby hue. Big beige-yellow frothy head that stays long and leaves thick creamy lacing. Fruity aromas over bread malts, caramel and mild alcohol. The taste is hoppy overpowering the malts. Good bitterness with a little dryness in the finish. Mild caramel lingers. Hints of apples. Quite the bite this brew offers. Interesting to have such a strong ESB and a nice collaboration between 4 greats.

This one was bought for me for my birthday by my wife and daughters, so take note marketers this label appeals to 5-year-old girls. Had a good laugh and my beer buddy Freaky_tiki review of this beer. Makes me wonder how accurate each brewery’s version of this beer is as Phillips Brewing Co. getting slagged, (fiulijn (16659) 2.4 "English yeast, puke" ). I had the FM version and I liked it. A clear rosy brown pour, with a fluffy tan head. Lots of caramel malts in the nose with raisin, a touch of booze. Taste is certainly not very ESB, heavy malt with a good level of bitter that lingers, but it’s heavy on the caramel sweet. I think it strikes a balance, but I can see it being too much for some. Once again raisins, and creamy mouthfeel.

(bottle) clear, bright reddish amber colour with a tall, brown head; aroma of stewed fruit, then roast; somewhat creamy palate; balanced flavour with a long, light bitter finish

Bottle from the LCBO. Clear very deep copper colour with a modest tan head that leaves some sparse lace. Nose is candied sugar, dark fruit with some wood and a good dose of grassy hops. Light sweet caramel leading to a moderate bitterness. Medium+ sticky mouth with average carbonation. Nice ESB, if a little boozy.
