A naturally brilliant blend of malt and hop characters. Solid gold colour, remarkably aromatic. smooth body with hints of fresh citrus. Dry delicate hop flower finish. A drink that is both distinctive and long on refreshment.

3.8% abv in cask and 4.4% in bottle.

Golden with white head. Couldn’t detect enough aroma to comment. Medium body, medium carbonation. Favor has toffee with notes of tea and hints f orange with some bitterness in finish. Overall it’s easy to drink but not great.

2nd rate Cask @ JDW Muckle Cross, Elgin
Light golden, dense white head, some lacing
Aroma - Caley malts, popcorn, diacetyl, touch of spicy hop
Taste - buttery popcorn malts, touch of scorched butterscotch, corn, cereals, bit metallic, no citrus here, not good at all
Palate - soft carb, thinnish body, bit oily. Finish - quite bitter, some metallic cereal
Overall - I remember this years back being a pretty good pint but I only gave it 12/20 a year ago. Either my palate has changed or the beer is nose-dived in quality. I suspect more of the latter. It’s a shame such a poor quality golden ale is seen over so many pubs in Scotland. It’s just rubbish now.

Cask @ Muckle Cross, Elgin. 250911 5/3/7/3/12
Light golden beer, clear, thin white head.
Aroma of light malts and popcorn, some citrus.
Taste of light citrus, popcorn, sweet light biscuity malt, bit of cereal. Has that typical ’Caledonian’ taste, hint of yeast.
Palate - Soft carb, thinnish body, light citrusy cereal finish.
Overall - This ale is everywhere. Quite quaffable but to be honest it’s overrated, however, it’s not bad if it’s in top nick.

Cask. It pours clear amber, with a thin foamy white head and soft carbonation. The nose is sweet malt, grass, lime, fudge, sweet red apple and strawberry. The taste is lemon, lime, strawberry, sweet malt, metal, bread and hay, with a light bitter-dry finish. A solid sessionable beer.

Thomson’s Bar on tap! Amber beer with good head retention. The nose is a gentle green note with a creamy background. The taste is creamy/malty/bitter but hard to split these notes up - it’s confusing. The bitterness on the end is more of a burnt maltiness than of any hops. The palate is generally quite balanced but as the pint goes on, the ending becomes more and more unpleasant and there’s no way I’m getting a second pint.

Clear golden with a white head. Aroma is malty, caramel and light hoppy. Flavor is medium sweet and light bitter. Finish is light bitter. I let myself fool by the label saying IPA. I was very disappointed and I should have known better. 250508

Warning! Early amateur rating! Draft in Edinburgh. A refreshing easy drinking ale. Smooth and creamy with nice fruitiness and not much bitterness.

2011 Note - this isn’t worth drinking outside of Edinburgh. Always great in Edinburgh always cack outside (especially England). It just doesn’t travel IMO.

Skotsk bitter som drar åt det traditionella IPA-hållet. Knappt märkbart dock, snarare en standardbitter, men en bra sådan med fin humleprofil.

Multiple samplings reveal a fairly consistently lame beer. Deuchars is roughly golden, and vaguely malt-accented. Most of the time, it is in fairly rough shape as the brewery isn’t terribly discerning about who they sell to. Often with diacetyl or sewagey notes as a result. Always a disappointment.
