"The most convivial of ales" as described (and often imbibed) by 'The Bard' himself has become the adopted beer of the bohemian vagabonds of the Scottish arts scene. A pale golden brew, that is cold stored with gooseberries to deliver a sharp refreshing drinking experience.

Bottle Pours a very light hazy orange/amber with a faint short lived fizzy head. Only a thin line of lacing. Aroma is of pale grains, wheat, like a heffy but a little sweeter and a slight fruity note of pears and peaches. Flavor is quite tart. Apples and pears mostly, quite dry and sour. Lively carbonation. I hope for a litle more fruit flavor in a fruit beer. This tastes more line a bitter hef.

Orange-yellow with a reddish tinit. No head. Smells sweet, fruity, and kinda plain. Flavor is slightly skunky and has a weird slightly fruited flavor, but not really a fruit you’d want in your mouth. Odd, not great.

From a sampler 3-pack. Hazy dark yellow color with a decent head. Fruity aroma, but just the typical ale aromas, nothing that would stand out as being Gooseberry. Again I didn’t notice any flavor that would distinguish if from the average ale. Decent, but nothing remarkable or very different in this one.

Bottle, dated "Best Before Oct. 2000." Another cellared bottle from my stash, so I’ll try and compensate for its age: Pours a dark murkish brown with a thin head. There is a nice berry smell. The taste shows a slight amount of oxidation, and a malt character that has deepend. Berry taste is slightly too sweet for gooseberries, but then it becomes more tart toward the finish. Any hop character is severly diminished, but I could have thought there were other bittering agents at work. It has also gotten a little mediciny over the years. Interesting, and I’d say it’s aged out pretty well.

Bottled (BB 08/2004)
Hazy light yellow. Very small white head. Sour, berry, yeasty, black currant aroma. Quite light, a bit sahti-like notes and witbier-like palate (some wheat flavor).

Hazy golden/orange colour with no head. Aroma of bananas, cloves and bubble gum. Medium-bodied; Bland wheatie taste with hints of the bananas and cloves showing through-but not much. Aftertaste very clean-almost nothing at all. Overall, a dissapointing choice! I had this on Cask at R.F.D. in Washington on 28-November-2003.

Only a little aroma. some wheat, a little fruit. Aroma is very similar to sam adams cherry wheat. Appearance is light, cloudy copper color. There is no head. This beer is more complex than one notices at first. The first taste was of a standard lager. Some fruit comes through, but not much. Next is the wheat, which is a little sweet. There is considerable bitterness, finished with sweet malt and sour fruit. Despite all of the things going on in this beer, none of them are well done or stand out in a positive way, and everything there seems filtered and restrained. Sweeter as it warmed. This bottle was past the expiration date.

Hazy gold with short white head.Faintly fruity nose. Taste is light malt with light faintly acidic berry flavor. Interesting , but not really enough there.

MMMM BOGMYRTLE!! this was a unique beer. very experimental and it actually tastes good. Not something id drink every day. It had a very thick meaty taste to it, with lots of spices. Good brownish, yellow tint to it, and a good amount of carbonation. It took a few sips to get used to, but i finished it easily. not a bad beer.
