A smooth brown beer that displays hints of chocolate from the different malts used. A gentle level of bitterness has been harnessed from the USA's crystal hop variety.

Cask at Black Lion, Nantwich. Pours a dark reddish-brown with a small cream head. Not much of an aroma – just vague maltiness. In the mouth, malts are to the fore, along with autumn fruits and cherries with spicy hints. Becomes more bitter as drinking progresses, but with some underlying sweetness. Finish is quite spicy. This is decent, though I’m not quite sure how to categorise it.

Cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading. Very brown beer with a cream-coloured head. No fizz. Smooth chocolate up front, then a pleasant nuttiness with light caramel and a touch of dry autumn leaves. Pleasant if a bit flat. Definitely a brown ale rather than the bitter it's been logged on here as.

Cask-conditioned at the Knights Templar (JDW), Bristol 23/3/2019. Deep brown in colour, with a frothy, off-white, head. A sweet, toasty bitter, with some chocolate and berry notes, leading to a moderately bitter finish. Good.

Cask. Rather clear brown color with amber highlight. Aroma is chocolate, nutty, earthy, very full. Taste is smooth chocolate, hazelnuts and cereals, toffee malts, with a tiny bitter roast edge in the back. Creamy mouthfeel, perhaps a tiny bit too light, flat. A pleasant surprise!

Hand-pulled cask pint in my local Wetherspoons on 22nd Jan 2019. Smooth creamy head on a mid-brown body. Malty front with a slight chocolate leaning in the aroma and taste, some biscuity like flavours too.
