At Struise, we love all the beers we make. However, if there should be only one that we should call our ‘flagship’ with right and reason, it’s Pannepot. After a lifetime of brewing tasty, but ‘safer’ beers, this was our first venture into a world of extremities and has a great deal of responsibility in making us into what we are today.

This ‘Old Fisherman’s Ale’, named after the fishing trawlers on which men would risk life and limb to feed their families, sits somewhere in between a Belgian strong dark ale and a stout. It pours a luscious dark brown with a creamy tan head. Each sip hits you with complex flavors of toasty bitterness and deep caramel sweetness. With all its dark and strong complexity, this beer lends itself perfectly to all types of barrel-aging, which is exactly what we've done. We've aged it on various different barrels, including bourbon and calvados. Don't miss out and try it soon! As of 2016 the abv is 12%.

Sweet malty with notes of caramel and toffee, lots of dark dried fruit shred, lots of spice, caramelised brown sugar, medium plus body, spiced sweet malty finish. Very nice and can imagine this vintage will improve well with age.

Bottled: 7/2020. Impressions of red apple, pear, prune, milk chocolate, white port, candi sugar, dried banana, cherry. Taste of sweet raisin, apple, cherry & plum; mainly caramelly & sugary malt base, bit nutty, very slightly toasty. Herbal & spicy hoppy finish, lingering dried fruit & caramel, warming (white) port-like alcohol. Medium to full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. As satisfying as ever.

Taster at home courtesy of Sander, big thanks. dark brown color, small tan head. smells marzipan, ripe fruits, figs, molasses, candy. nice smell overall. full body, soft carbonation. tastes peppery, earthy, grassy, spices, leathery, herbal, rubbery. finishes bit dry and lightly bitter with notes of earthy, peppery and rubbery notes. hmm, yeah, another messy Struise beer.

Klassika. Veits häirivat räpast pärmi mekki on mann, aga see klaarib ilmselt aja jooksul ära. Ehk siis peab tulevikus uuesti proovima.
