Cool, a chance to try the original. Pours opaque black, small brown head, good lacing. Aroma is quite roasty, molasses, cocoa, hint of anise. Flavor is medium sweet, medium bitter. Full body, soft mouthfeel. Interesting.

Pint can from Wine Warehouse, 6/15/22. Pours black, motor oil, looks slick. Medium dark brown head, good retention. Aroma of roast, tobacco, leather, smoke. Taste is roast, smoke, chocolate, green notes. Full bodied, booze well hidden. Very nice. Appropriate is not the right word, but, getting tobacco notes from a beer dedicated to people who used to grow and harvest the tobacco crop against their will.... #BLM. Very well done. Good to try the original.

16 oz. can. Pours an opaque ink black color with a tiny beige head and poor retention. Zero lacing. Aroma of molasses and booze. Strong dry roasted stout flavor and a dry finish and a little licorice - not at all like the aroma. Low bitterness and the 8.82% ABV is well hidden. Thick mouthfeel with low carbonation.

Listed at 7% on the can. Black as advertised with a frothy head of modest duration. Fudge and vanilla aroma with a dose of soy sauce. Taste is moderate sweet, full of vanilla and milk chocolate. Medium bodied, mildish carbonation, smooth. Not bad.
