Gelbvieh (pronounced ‘Gel-Fee’) is a Franconian style Kellerbier. Brewed with our friends from Newbarns Brewery in Leith, Scotland. Expect an unfiltered and hazy gold lager with a robust bitterness and a floral, spicy hop character, dashed with notes of strawberry and fresh melon. Gelbvieh is named after a classic Bavarian cattle breed originating from the Franconian Region. Similar looking to both Simmentals and Limousins, which are found at both Newbarns Farm and in the grounds of Thornbridge Hall.

Can 440ml (Alko web)
Slightly hazy yellow colour, small white head. Aroma has grain and light sweet fruityness. Light-bodied. Grain, bubblegum, sweetish fruityness. In its fruityness it feels more like a Kölsch than Kellerbier. Ok.

440ml can from Sophie's Beer Store; BB 10th Aug 2021. Poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 29th Apr 2021. Slight mistiness to the dull golden body, huge white foam crown on top. Decent bitter feel to this Kellerbier, light floral twist, but not much of anything on the aroma front until it begins to warm a little bit, then there is a mini maltiness to be found.

A tasty and balanced brew with good grassy and grainy notes.

Can picked up direct from the Saveur-Biere, webshop, Lille, France. Consumed at home Saturday 3rd April 2021 listening to Dry Cleaning - New Long Leg. Still thinking about starting to cook Prawn, Clam, Scallops, Feta and Tomatoes. Hazy gold, with a white head. Soft mouthfeel, a little dry, flinty edge. Bitterness throughout, nicely done.

440ml can Sophie's Beer Store. Pours gold with a faint mist and a loose head of white froth atop. Aroma has softly sweet pale lager malt. Taste is noticeably sweet, fitting nicely within the kellerbier mould, soft floral nuances with a delicate bitterness. Good stuff.

Can. Light haze on this yellowish gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Palate is airy and fairly dry but finishes with a crispy snap. Light malts, a modest lager tang. Crisp floral hoppage with a bitterish edge. Trace of citrus toward the dry and crisp finish. Bitterish linger. A robust and drinkable lager
