In the spring of 2019, we received a series of very old Oloroso, PX and Amontillado barrels through a local Jerez cooperage. The aromas were a mix of typical fine sherry notes and toasted, peated characteristics, which we have never experienced before. However, after a year of bottle conditioning – because of the higher peated aromas, albeit balanced – we decided to release this bottle not as a Zenne y Frontera, but as a peated geuze.

750mL bottled April 15th, 2020, drunk July 1st, 2023. Clear golden. Large, white head, modest retention for a lambic. Nose is rich peat with sherry oxidation, light wood and vanilla with big bursts of lactic acidity and light apple character. Pepper, band aid, more wood and balancing malt/wheat character with no alcohol or flaw. Soft, malty/wheatslick with a lovely peppery peatiness through the middle. Fine carbonation and strong tartness/light sourness, very lemony. Bit of apple, lots of fruity, playful Brett. For once the higher ABV doesn't seem to overly thin out the body. Rich sherry is wonderfully integrated.

Flaska från 3F No62 2020. Gyllengul disig vätska med högt skum. Inte någon jättestor rökighet men man kan ana den och den växer och ger mycket karaktär. Mycket gott

Bottle. Bit hazy golden. Funky, smoke, peat, sulphur, wheat, soft alcohol, ash, oak. No idea why the abv are s so high and if the smoke is from sulphur like I suspect or from real peat (how). It’s actually OK.

Poured from 750mL bottle (season 19/20; Blend No. 61; 10.6% abv). Hazy gold with small white head. Funk and horseblanket with underlying peat rounding things out and a touch of sherry. Very nice.

Taster, shared by Werckmeister, thanks! Orange, moderate hazy body, with a small, off-whtie head. Aroma of cheesy funk, sherry, stone fruits, some wood, subtle peat. Tastes similar. Medium, a bit oily mouthfeel, with a moderate carbonation. Finishes smooth, moderate acidic, medium sweet, a bit funky, citric, fruity, with stone fruits. Tasty. The peated notes are pretty subtle, the sherry notes are more prominent. Otherwise a straight, rustic Geuze, with lovely funk and fruit notes. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 / 4 / 16

0,75l bottle at home. Bottled 15.04.2020. bit of a gusher this one. amber lightly hazy color, rather big white head. smells earthy, grassy, peated, spices, sherry, wood, oak, smoky, peppery. lovely smell. full body, pearly carbonation. tastes smoked, some peat, herbal, earthy, stone fruits, underlying sweetness, peppery, spices, some horse radish. finishes lightly dry and lightly sour with notes of peppery, peat and stone fruit notes. hmm, pretty good one. peat is pretty noticeable, and for me doesnt work so well with the beer. Possibly this just needs more time, also rather heavy for a geuze. Peat gets more noticeable when warmer, also on the smell, which I loved at first. Overall good, possibly could like this more with some age on it.

This is so good. My first peated lambic. The lightly smokey backbone is perfectly balanced with the slightly sweet, rich Sherry plum notes.
