Cask during the Mikkeller Tap Takeover at King William IV - London. Pours clear, amber-russet with a light, white film cap. Deep, well aged fruits on the nose, some brown sugar, heavy figs and dates. Big sweet flavor with mellow wood, brown sugar, rich bread, dark cherries, massive dates, figs, hints of chocolate. Full bodied with soft, fine carbonation. Warming finish without being hot (impressive given the ABV) with moderate toffee and tons more dates and figs. Very decadent and dangerously drinkable. Well done.

Cask at King William IV, 16/08/13. Dark chestnut brown with little in the way of a head. Nose is woody, dark fruits, dates, tobacco, stewed prunes, brown sugars, dark toffee. Taste comprises dark frutis, dates, stewed plums, sugar, leather, tobacco, faint cocoa, earthy. Medium bodied, fine carbonation. Great flavoursome stuff, one of the best double digit cask beers I’ve had the pleasure of.

Bottle from the Utobeer Stall in Borough Market. Pours hazy brown - liquified brown sugar. No head. Aroma of brown sugar and strange dark fruit. Full bodied. Flavor is brown sugar, prune and somewhat oxidized hop. It’s not dry, but it’s close enough. It’s just a little bitter. The oxidized materials fit my taste. The heat isn’t noticeable in the palate, but my head seems to have expanded a bit. Nice sipper!

25 cl bottle vintage 2010 @ wPBF’13 Rated on 26.4.2013
Aroma has woody notes, raisins and toffee notes. Also the alcohol is present. Flavour has woody notes, alcohol, raisins, plums and toffee. Too boozy, perhaps this could improve by age. 7-3-7-3-16 = 3.6 25 cl bottle vintage 2010 @ home Rated on 26.4.2013
Aroma has raisins, some moldy tones and sweet malt. Flavour has sweet malt and rather intense licorice character. A bit sherry- and medicine-like. Palate is flat and low on CO2. The licorice character this has gained during the years is nice – but then again this has some corners rounded too much. 7-4-8-4-15 = 3.7

Bottled@vPBFII. Amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is raisins, alcohol, some glue and mild fruity notes too. Flavour is very much the same with the big note being on the glues.

(Cask at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 24 Nov 2012. Vintage 2010) Reddish brown colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of dried fruit, molasses and hints of port wine. Malty, fruity taste with caramel, dried fruit, prunes, plums and hints of red wine tannins in a sweet and vinous finish with a slight red fruit tartness. Full body, thick and syrupy mouthfeel. Quite sweet. Hardly subtle and well balanced, but as a warming barley wine for cold winter evenings, this satisfies me perfectly well. Nice one.
