Bottle, picked up at the Dodgy Deli’, Cowley Rd, Oxford, 15-09-06. Reddy amber coloured beer which has a slight haze despite my best efforts at pouring and was very lively as though it couldn’t wait to get out of the bottle, with the off-white coloured head going everywhere but in the glass. Definate fruity aroma but mores so of rich dried fruits, malty and bitter in the taste and whilst it was enjoyable enough not really my thing.

Royal Oak Traditional Bitter, 500ml bottle brought home from St Albans Beer Festival, Sept.05. Bottle conditioned (bb. 28.04.06). Deep amber with slowly fading beige head that left nice lacing on the glass. Rich malty and floral aromas. Fruity and malty body with a touch of caramel and yeast. Medium bitter ending.

Murky amber appearance. Lively aroma of passion fruit, caramel, brown sugar, plum. The flavour, however, is underwhelming (it may not have been a word when they wrote that song but it is now). It’s got a slightly dusty, vaguely malty character to it. One of the most annoying things in beer is when it smells great and then tastes like hardly anything at all. That’s what I’m getting here.
