The first 2017 release in our boundary-pushing release of one-off Abstrakt beers is here!

An imperial stout brewed with cacao and coffee, AB:22 has spent two years in darkness, drawing complex and indulgent flavour from the Speyside whisky casks in which it has resided: chocolate ganache, cold-brew coffee, vanilla pods, molasses, chocolate-covered raisin, fudge sundae, espresso martini, toasted coconut… this is one of our most intense and decadent barrel aged stouts, ever.

Bottle from the Brewdog Online Shop. Wax seal almost as difficult to get in to than those stupid plastic corks, but not quite. Results were worth it though. Oily black pour with a thick brown head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, coconut and faint whisky. Taste is rich dark chocolate, more coffee and whisky. Very nice.

Dark brown bubbly head left a thick, oily, near black still body. Oil slick comes to mind! Pungent aroma of strong black coffee & dark berries. Full bodied. Thick, viscous, oily & no carbonation. Just slides down the throat. Plum, chocolate, cherry, dark berries, liquorice tastes with a tangy finish.

Bottle courtesy of Geraint and Helen (thanks you two) consumed at home Friday 21st July 2017 whilst making a Ceylon Chicken meal from the Curry Guy Book Pours black, looks quite intense. Really big beastie of a beer with waves and waves of creamy, thick indulgent flavours coming through. Coffee, chocolate, dark sticky fruits, vanilla and light spirits but lashings of chocolate and coffee. Lovely, really lovely. A8 A4 T8 P5 Ov16 4.2

Bottle shared at Leightons place, 10/07/2017. Many thanks to Paul for this one. A jet black coloured viscous pour with a thin dirty tan head. Aroma is lots of liquorice, dark choc, boozy fruit cake, whisky. Flavour is composed of big robust dark choc, roast, plum, woody whisky boozy. Lingering rich burnt sugars. Palate is full bodied, frothy, highish carbonation, velvety smooth. Really good. Big lingering bitter dark choc.

Bottle shared in Hackney - thanks to Paul. Pours oily black with a foamy, brown head. Big ashy roast in the aroma, burnt marshmallows, baking cocoa, raisins. Medium to big sweet flavour with lots of bittersweet baking, scorched earth. Full bodied, oily and chewy, with fine carbonation. Warming finish with lots more ash, bitter dark chocolate, earth, leathery berries, raisins. Wonderful stuff. Great depth, cohesive, and drinks pretty easy. Excellent.
