Perhaps you’ve heard of a Imperial IPA masked as a Christmas Beer in a silly attempt to change a beloved tradition for sweet Holiday brews. This Imperial IPA is actually a no BS beer – truthfully very bitter and in all earnestly a bit on the heavy side. All in all brewed for all occasions – celebrating your firstborn, sending the kids away for summer camp, it’s Monday and this beer is scoring 100.

As ’All Occasions IPA’ . Light haze on this amber beer, tidy cream coloured head. Nose of lime, sour melon and grapefruit!! Palate is smooth and a little dry. Nice medium carbonation. Some creamy malt, airy and semi dry. Fresh yellow grapefruit, lime and a trace of sour melon. Marmalade citric bitterness. Seltzer minerals. Dry finish with a bitter salty aftertaste. Complex IPA, very tasty and a little different.

Whole Foods, Bowery 33cl ($7): Pours light amber with a beige head. Aroma is citrus, pine, and some sugary maltiness. Taste is rubbery and bready, with a sort of consistent hoppy undertone. Somebody else calls one of the flavors here rubber, and I am inclined to agree. The hops do provide plenty of flavor, but I can’t help but feel that this might be slightly past its prime or that perhaps the prime was somewhat hyped. Perhaps if I see this on draught I’ll ask for a sample and compare notes.

330 ml bottle. Labeled All Occasions IPA. Pours a murky amber with medium head and nice lacing. Aromas of funky caramel, spruce, and a little grapefruit. Flavor of rubber, toasted malts, sourdough, and hints of citrus (limes). Chewy. Stretching an IPA but quite good.

33cl bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Deep amber, hazy, lasting white head. grapefruity hoppy aroma. Very drinkable. No hint of the alcohol. It’s all about the hops and this works very well indeed. Yes decent enough. Decent double IPA.

Bottle at home. Pours a pretty clear orange amber colour with a khaki medium head. Well-carbonated. Has a distinct aroma of grassy hops almost like pure pellets, along with grapefruit and pine. Nicely balanced. Lots of hoppy sourness in the taste as well, feels dry, and with the addition of harpix and more grapefruit. Soft and silky mouth feel, and has a medium to heavy bitterness. This is a nice beer if youre a hophead, for me its well-balanced but a bit one dimensional beer.
