A high quality, relatively dry lager brewed using distinctive low bitterness aroma hops. Taddy Lager undergoes at least six weeks cold maturation to create a refreshing lager with an exceptionally clean, crisp finish. It is brewed only at the little town of Tadcaster which is the reason for its name. The word “Taddy” was Samuel Smith’s Brewery’s first registered trademark.

On keg at the Swan and Cygnets in Durham. Appearance - golden with a proportionate head and ferocious carbonation. Nose - gentle citrus. Taste - lemon and lime, slightly confected. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - decent lager. Worth a revisit.

Keg @ Doo’cot, Edinburgh [010713] 4.5% alc
Light golden, big bubbly fizzy head, lots of streaming carb
Aroma - faint lager spicy hop, pale cereal malt
Taste as aroma, light sweet pale malts, dab of cereal, very soft spicy hop
Palate - High carb, fairly thin, bit oily. Finish as main flavour, some more cereal
Overall - Better than the macro lagers it is supposed to imitate and its cheaper too. Most lagers are dreadful but I wouldn’t mind drinking 2-3 pints of this.

Well carbonated with a large head. Has a slight sweetness in its taste but a poor flavour.

Tap at Rising Sun, London. Pours perfectly clear, effervescent yellow with a super tight, white cream cap. Corn and cereal grains in the nose. Medium sweet flavor with doughy white bread, cereal, corn, faint floral bitterness. Light bodied with average, creamy carbonation. More cereal on the finish, white bread, some simple white sugar, bit of corn. The closest thing I’ve found to a British-made lawnmower beer. Not bad.

On tap (4,5%) at Sinclairs Oyster Bar, Manchester. Clear pale golden with a white head. Fairly standard pale lager, but with more fruitiness and bitterness. Refreshing and decent enough. Enjoyable outside on a sunny day in January. (2013-01-26)
