A high quality, relatively dry lager brewed using distinctive low bitterness aroma hops. Taddy Lager undergoes at least six weeks cold maturation to create a refreshing lager with an exceptionally clean, crisp finish. It is brewed only at the little town of Tadcaster which is the reason for its name. The word “Taddy” was Samuel Smith’s Brewery’s first registered trademark.

Old Anchor, Tower Bridge.4.5%, Bright clear gold beer. Small white head. Light palate, crisp. Minerally. Light caraway malt and decent but mellow citric hops. Nicely balanced. A little paper in the crisp dry finish but this is a clean and quaffable lager.

Fra kran på Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese, Fleet Street 3 Nov 12. Lys gylden. Masse kullsyre som utløses fra bunnen. Høyt tett, hvitt skum. OK aroma av gress & malt. Smaken er syrlig malt med litt gress og høy. Ettersmaken er søt malt.

Not sure why I had a half of this: purely to review it I suppose, plus I’d never seen it before: Half pint poured for me by an Australian young lady in the beautiful ‘Citte of Yorke, Holborn, London. Regular pilsner/lager looks, golden, clear and clean, except it had a solid looking crown of white bubbles on top which almost stayed for the whole review, very un-lager like. Not much in the nose, some citrusy hints but not otherwise nothing. This is a fairly sweet lager, certainly sweeter than a typical UK brewed lager/pilsner and I found it refreshing, but only because it became a little drier towards the end of each sip. Not harsh, but not really smooth either, a bit ‘fizzy’ to be honest: lacked that zing and sharpness this style of drink should have, comes out as a Mr Average in almost all aspects. The alcohol content didn’t help its cause to greatly either.

Keg, half pint, served far too cold at The Cittie of Yorke, Holborn. Clear amber with a fast fading white foam. Pale malt to the nose. Frail taste of grass and malt. Lively carbonated. Poor in taste partly because it was served ice cold (Saturday eve, 09.08.2008).
