Taking inspiration from two idiosyncratic British pub cocktails, this collaboration with Oliver's is a unique blend of cider and lager. We fermented apple juice in a bourbon barrel over six months and blended with Helles Bock, conditioned in a port barrel for the same duration, before adding lemon juice prior to bottling.

Bottle at the 'Mere, Happy New Years (Tipples had) Tastang, thanks to Fergus 21/01/22. Hazed orange with a decent just off white cap. Nose is tangy citric zest, hint of apple, grains, light acidic notes, tangy fruit esters. Taste comprises lemon rind, zesty, grass, grains, apple orchard, airy malts. Full bodied, fine to spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Decent refreshing affair ... far from a Bock though.

22st January 2022
Tasting at Chez Bois. Thanks to Fergus. Hazy gold beer, small white head, doesn't last. Palate is light, semi dry and has a good fine minerally crisp bite. Funky start, slightly savoury. Mildly tart fruits into a more obvious cider crisp finish. Pinch of sherbet. Refreshing.

Bottle shared in Hazlemere - cheers to Fergus. Pours mostly clear gold with a smal, creamy white head. Big funky apple skin nose. Lightly sweet, some zippy lemon, more funky apple, musty cellars. Light bodied with super active, massaging carbonation. Quenching finish, dry, musty. Nice stuff.

Bottle. Can’t recall where from. Pours clear gold before a big yeast dump sends it all new aged and hazy. Very noisy head quickly disappears to form a film of white. Nose has sour apple pomace. Hint of bourbon. Lemon rind. Lime juice. Some bretty notes. Taste is dry and sour. Thin on the palate with some acidity. High foamy carbonation. Dry and sour finish.

Bottle from Cloudwater online store. Pours murky yellow gold with a dissipating white head. Aroma: sweet, cider, funk. Taste: moderate sweet, cider, lemon citrus, funk. Tricky to describe. It's got to be my first barrel aged snakebite though. Medium body with spritzy carbonation. A good fun experiment, and I enjoyed it, although it probably won't win too many points for style from the purists

Five guys on a mission, Shrewsbury Beer Share in Chez Sophie: 9th Aug 2021. Cheers Paolo for the 375ml bottle of this weird one. Cloudy pale yellow body, mini white head. Sweet lemon flavour and very un Maibock or even Heller Bock and where was the cider influence? Not overly impressed, glad I didn't pay for it!

375ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, Aug 21. Praise be to Paolo for bringing this one. Pours gold with a light mist, small white head. Very strange sweet sugary aroma that's hard to pin down, taste is similarly sweet, sugary and not quite what I envisaged from the description. Cider influence unfortunately seems negligible, instead resulting in a beer that appears a little confused, the helles sweetness seemingly latching onto the lemon juice with a soft bourbon presence and some indistinct sweet shop sugar. Not entirely convinced this one works, but possibly could've worked with more of Oliver's cider in the mix. Great to try something different though.
