Bottle from Batemans Visitor Centre, Wainfleet. Backlog rating from bottle collection and historic scoring. No tasting notes kept, just rating.

Pours a clear gold with a frothy head that soon reduces to a film. A mild but promisingly balanced aroma just means disappointment because there isn’t a lot of flavour and it certainly wouldn’t go with any strong-tasting food. Not undrinkable, just bland.

Lively, carbonated golden ale with no head and not much flavour, but palatable. Has a lager type nose.

Clear 500ml bottle (best before 30 Apr 2013) was poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 10th May 2012. Hoppy nose and initial taste in this pale orange coloured beer: no head after 30 seconds, I hate that! It looks weak and tastes weak, not impressed at all. The worst Batemans beer I’ve ever had (so far).

50cl bottle from Aldi. Pale amber in a clear bottle with a explosive openning, pouring with a billowing white head, that faded immediately leaving a flat looking beer with some light carbonation; aroma of cereeal grain and very musty hops; weak corn syrup flavour; and a damp cardboard finish. This has to be the worst Batemans beer I’ve come across.
