Cask at the Cricketers Arms, Bedford. Mid to dark ruby brown, with a perfect off-white head. Odd little nose: bit of cinnamon, bit of smoke, with malty overtones & the slightest astringency. Taste changes from sweet to sour-bitter with a short sweetish finish. Balanced bitter aftertaste. Interesting and certainly worth trying: a brown bitter that holds a mystery or two.

Cask at The Gate Clock, JDW - Greenwich, London. Pours clear brown with a fine, white foam head. Toasted leaves and brown bread on the nose. Light to medium sweet flavor with light dirt, toffee, sweet brown bread. Light to medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Moderately sweet finish with some grainy brown bread, faint dry toffee, toast, ligth earth. Actually pretty darn alright. A classical and, as such, very drinkable bitter.

Cask handull at County Hotel JDW Ashford. Clear deep brown with lasting beige head. Fruity malty beer. Like a fruity digestive biscuit. Juicy hedgerow fruits. I thought pretty good. Yes drinkable. Ok condition little bit of sting on finish

Deep dark brown ale but clear which makes its thick creamy head stand out. It’s a smooth winter style ale with a very pleasant fusion of hops and wild fruits.

This review is of a hand pulled cask pint taken in the well respected ‘Dove’ in North London. Originally a one off special brewed in 2010 it is now an occasional brew coming out during the winter months. The pump clip claimed it was a ’Winter Ale’. The beer comes a dark, deep red/brown, a dull chestnut colour I suppose: on top was a cream coloured foaming head of bubbles. Not a huge nose to my pint, some maltiness but very little of anything really. The taste was of roasted malts, some grain type notes and a gentle hop finish: I was expecting a bit more for a winter brew to be honest, especially on seeing the colour and body depth it hinted at. Nothing wrong with it, but I was a hoping for more (of everything).

Cask at the Market Porter. Had this twice at the Porter, first time nice complex and clean flavour, second pint 2 days later, I agree with the last review may have been on the turn

(Cask at Junction Tavern, London) Beer was browner than bitters usually are. Otherwise this was quite an ordinary bitter. Perhaps bitterness was a bit more intense than I would have expected. Nice session beer.
