(Keg at Pikkulintu Kontula, 20230511) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized, dense, lightly brown and it lasted long. Aroma had coffee with cream, burnt malts and light sweetness. Palate was medium bodied and soft with medium carbonation. Flavours were burnt malts, coffee with cream, chocolate, mild sweetness and medium bitterness. Aftertaste was burnt and bitter. A tasty burnt brew with good balance.

Brown porter in traditional style, nitro-tapped at Tilquin English Beer Festival. Creamy, very dense, yellowish beige, very firm head – a typical ‘nitro head’ indeed; very dark chocolate brown robe, near black but with a ruby glow still visible. Aroma of coffee grounds, hard caramel, walnut, bayleaf, nutmeg, burnt blackcurrants, toast, ferrous spring water, dry tree leaves, tea. Some dried prune sweetishness in the onset, touch of old raisin, but generally dry, with that typical soft minute nitrogen bubble creaminess, very smooth as a result but also notably full at this strength. Slick caramelly and walnutty core with considerable roasted, coffee-ish bitterness in the end, spiced with a dose of leafy, herbal hops. Dry finish. Quite an easygoing porter – or dry stout perhaps, but everyone knows there is no ‘real’ distinction so who cares. In any case one of the better Anspach & Hobday offerings I had to date, along with other porter variants – apparently old school English porter is what they are most proficient in.

Draft. Nitro. Black beer with a light tan nitro head. Nutty and light chocolate aroma. Light chocolate and light nutty flavor with light caramel. Medium bodied. Light chocolate and light nuttiness linger with light caramel.

Pint in the Bear, Paddington. Black with a creamy off white head. Aroma is roasted malt, coffee. Flavour is more of the same, a little smoky. Very good

Tap at Beer Merchants Tap, London (25/03/2023) - Roasted dark malty with cocoa, burnt brown sugar, earthy ashy malts, coffee roast, medium bodied, roasted malty finish. Very nice Porter.

Draft, half pint. @Anspach & Hobday Bermondsey Taproom. 19/02/2023 [#6.007 Global - #767 England - #3 Anspach & Hobday] Really wanted to try this one at the source. Pours beautiful dark brown with a creamy beige head. Yeah, very good looking. Aroma: earthy roasted malts, charcoal and mild coffee beans. Very good aroma as well. Taste: mild roast, bittersweet cocoa beans. Satisfied with this one if a bit watery mouthfeel. Next one please!

Keg at Krakatoa. It pours pretty much black with a sturdy tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, bitter - sweet, coffee grounds, nutty, cacao nibs, gateaux and a touch of umami/liquorice. The taste is smooth, rich roasted malt, toasty, creamy almost, dark roast coffee, cacao nibs, nutty, earthy roast and bitter - sweet dark chocolate with a toasty finish. Medium body, fine carbonation and smooth mouth feel. Rounded, balanced and moreish. Good dry stout. Moreish.

Draft at Vinny & Ted, Chalfont St Peter. Poured almost black in colour with an everlasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is roasty malt, light ashtray. The flavour is moderate sweet and liqourice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, light ashtray, light milky lactose, light dry pepper spice, liqourice bitter palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

A deep dark porter with a thick nitro mocha head. In aroma, nice chocolate malt with light grassy hops, light mineral notes, light coffee, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate malt with light coffee notes, light cereals, light mineral notes, pleasant and smooth. On tap at brewery.
