Guess who is back? A Loerik Cantillon, 20 years later!
A Loerik is a mixture of lambics that will give birth to a gueuze whose fermentation - for an unknown reason - will last much longer than an ordinary gueuze.

While a gueuze will need several months of cellar before sparkling, a Loerik will have to rest years due to this slow fermentation. Since yeasts don't act as strong as they should, this atypical gueuze is considered lazy, hence the name Loerik (meaning lazy in Brussels dialect).

We can't explain this slower development and are therefore unable to plan for making such a beer. A Loerik is always the fruit of chance with a beautiful end result. Slow fermentation gives beer a lot of complexity and delicacy.

Bottle at home in Hackney. Picked up from Beer Merchants Tap. Pours perfectly clear orange-gold with a modest, creamy white topping. Clean and pale woody, modest funk, stable acidity, some grassy bite, dry, nips of lemon. Light bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Clean finish, tart and dry, a little acetic burn, more pale wood, soft grassy bitterness. Wildly drinkable.

Funky, tart and sourish with some earthiness and hints of floral notes and farmyardy notes. Quite balanced gueuze, but nothing that special

Bottle sampled at Foeders. Smells a bit like wort, white wine, funk, apple, peach, oak, cognac. Has a bit of that unfermented lambic character going on. Faro. Medium sweet and sour, also a bit bitter. Almost flat. Interesting but not amazing.

Thanks to Kraddel. 750 ml. bottle split by 4. Second bottle that I try. Lightly hazy darker orange, head disappears quickly. Nose is soft stone fruit, lightly funky, low old cellar and soft hay. Virtually no carbonation, even less than other bottle tried. Very soft mushy stone fruit, hay, overripe peach and oak, more fun than the regular geuze and obviously fun to try given how rare and famous the previous batch used to be.

Pours slightly unclear gold. Ever so slight ring of head. Scent is sharp, green , mushroomy wooden funk. citric, Malic acid. Taste is citric, malci acid, brett, bready, loads of oak. mild mushroomy 'funk'. Very decent. Low carbonation. Just as the OG, it's pretty good, but overhyped.
