A trusted guide in New Bedford’s outer harbor at the mouth of the Acushnet River, Butler Flats Lighthouse’ distinctive sparkplug design has allowed it to withstand harsh weather conditions since 1898.
Butler Flats Lighthouse' eponymous beer is a double IPA brewed with Simcoe hops and pours a dark yellow with moderate haze. On the nose a bright orange peel character melds with ripe pineapple leading to a palate rich with flavors of fresh apricots and honeydew melon. A soft mouthfeel and a medium body gives Butler Flats an even balance - it displays a touch of orange blossom honey sweetness with restrained hop character on the finish.

Pours unclear, darker blonde. Small Hite head. Smell is rich, tropical fruit, creamy. Taste is full tropical, very malty, bready. Apparently a year old, but this hasn't got the slightest trace of oxidation, and still has a nice amount of hoparoma. Lovely double IPA, clearly NEIPA style with not a single negative to be said due to age. Perhaps even more hoppy when fresh? Than it'd be even better! Very impressive

Canned 10/1/18, drunk 10/14/18.
Light, rosy-peach colored with a white head that fades steadily to a ring. Very hazy, though not soupy.
Surprisingly light for its size, with no booze or intense/sharp ester. Not much lime/grapefruit or pine and almost tropical-leaning, I daresay. Pretty damned nice for Simcoe. Light juice, even, with honey-like malts filling in the space and easily balancing. No resin or flaw.
In mouth, it's soft, succulently malty and does show a good amount of yeast fruitiness. Pineapple, orange and cherry with strong bubble gum. Feels like it's mostly yeast-driven flavors with the simcoe as an afterthought. Great texture and tightly carbonated. So much pineapple throughout, bordering canned-like. Lots of honey character, as well. Solid and a massive improvement from Nauset.

Pours a very hazy, golden-orange, with smallish, but lasting head. Aroma has citrus (orange) and tropical fruit (pineapple) characteristics, with lots of dankness. Flavor is very smooth, with light sweetness. Citrus and tropical fruit abound, with a lightly bitter pine/spruce hop finish. Alcohol content is well-hidden. Great beer!

16 oz. can. Aroma is mild orange, light pine. The flavor is amazingly fruit for Simcoe. Well, orange blossom honey and most be a citrus peel going on here. The sweetness doesn’t overwhelm at all. Really good.

Pours murky deep mango into a tulip. White head with medium retention recedes leaving spot lacing. Hot mango aromas. Soft with peach and hot caramel upfront turning to mango and passion fruit before the lasting burning pith finish.
