The First release in our “New Orthodox” IPA series, M-43 is designed to accentuate the deep and complex character from the combination of Calypso, Amarillo, Citra, and Simcoe hops. Citrus and Tropical notes of Pineapple, Mango and Grapefruit come through in the huge, yet surprisingly delicate aroma. The flavor backs these aromas with a soft, pillowy mouthfeel. Hop bitterness is not particularly intense, which leads to a very drinkable, juicy IPA even non-IPA fans love. The Haze is not from yeast, but rather from an interplay of lipids from the malted oat and oils and acids which naturally occur in the hand selected Dry hops. This beer is a perfect interplay between top grade malt and hops, MI water and brewing technique which cannot be faked.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated September 14, 2018. Aroma is very hop forward with a ton of dank, resin and grapefruit notes. Light tropical fruit and other citrus. Light malt and oat background notes. Pours a very hazy, murky, muddy, dirty straw color with a large, thick, pillowy, slightly off-white head that recedes slowly to a film that lingers. High lacing and faint legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with light cracker malt and faint oak notes. High bitterness and moderate grapefruit and pine resin notes. Lighter dank character with some orange and tangerine. Faint tropical fruit notes. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid NE IPA, but I can't help but feel this can is a bit old. Good hop notes, but the lighter fruity ones are fading.

16 oz. can, shared by Scott. Pours like Sunny D, with a thin, beige ring. Smells of pineapple, cloves, orange juice, raw coconut, and pine. Sweet and juicy, with a mild bitterness. Light to medium body, with a pulpy, acidic mouthfeel. This is a really nice NE IPA, because it's more complex than just OJ.

Pours hazy yellow from the can. A frothy white head slowly fades. Aroma is quite fruity: pineapple, peach, citrus. Taste is dominated by a tangy and bitter fruitiness that is quite citric. Feels like beer with orange juice. Finishes dry, bitter, with a lingering tang. Body is to the heavy side of medium, pulpy. Carbonation is moderate. Overall, the flavors from the hops are impressive. A noticeable malt profile would make this a more well rounded beer.
