(Bottle 75 cl) Dark amber, slightly hazy with a tiny, creamy head. Only faint smoked aromas from the whisky-malt. Lovely body which is soft, soft, soft. Unusual but very pleasant beer. 140604

2004 bottle. Pours a light amber-yellow and it almost looks like there is a tinge of rosy-pink color to it. White head, good retention. Aroma, and flavor for that matter, are not what I’m expecting. Yes it has the whiskey in there, but it is well-done and not overdone. Light peat and sour-mashed whiskey notes, with graininess and alcohol perfume. A touch of sweet honey like notes. Flavor is very subtle, light vanilla and sugar notes, with a touch of whiskey/alcohol flavor nipping at you. Moderate carbonation and a medium body with some earthiness and a light bitterness on the finish.

Draft, at the Maple Tree Inn, Blue Island IL. Guess I don’t know all the Unibroue names, so I’d never heard of Raftman… all the more reason to try it! Served in a small Aecht Schlenkeria glass, I see it is indeed whiskey colored: brown and a bit cloudy, with just a ring for a head. It’s got a clean, lightly roasted malt taste with just a hint of peat instead of the usually smoky cheese. One does get a suggestion of whiskey, but without the oak and alcohol. Just a touch of yeastyness at the finish. A great session beer.

I have had occasion to try this beer a few times over the last couple of years. While by no means one of my favorite Unibroue products, this beer is a nice change of pace. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a bronze color with a large white head. The aroma is yeasty, spicy and has noticeable hops and a hint of citrus. The flavor is yeasty, malty - almost woody, with a nice strong hop presence that fulfills without overwhelming. The middle is roasty with a hint of smokiness. The finish is yeasty and malty and lingers for quite some time. A well crafted and interesting brew but not one I would chose for regular consumption.

Brilliantly clear amber under a finely constructed tight white head. Aroma is suggestive of an apple wine. The palate is surprisingly light and clean, going over the tongue easily. Some malt in the flavor, but this is a very lightly constructed brew. Well balanced, this would be an excellent beer served with a meal. This cleanses the palate without being heavy. Not a smoked beer IMO.

An unclear dark orange beer with a small head. The aroma is sweet with notes of coriander. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of coriander. An OK beer but nothing special.

Light orange hue with relatively high carbonation - smells somewhat like a scottish ale with some peaches and apples thrown in (not sure if it works) - mouthfeel is somewhat creamy, but the flavor lacks the complexity to compliment this aspect of the beer - you can really taste the whiskey malt - a light fruitiness with undertones of scotch - finishes moderately clean, with a subtle spice - not terribly interesting, but worth a try at least once.

Tap, pours dark red with next to no head. Sligh winey flavour w/ apples, caramel. Not much carbonation with a watery palate
