Gnommegang - Belgian-Style Blonde Ale

A little magic and a lot of mischief. This time the gnomes brought more than just yeast from their Belgian farmstead Brasserie d'Achouffe! While Coop and the gnomes were spicing things up at the brewery, our brewers were carefully fermenting signature, fruity, spicy Chouffe yeast to create the flavorful unique blonde ale we all love! You’ll enjoy the smooth drinkability, fruity aromas and flavors, and warming finish.

Picked this up at the local Co-Op 6 months ago. Enjoyed in a Hill Farmstead Glass

A - Gold appearance. Nice 2 finger white head. Fades very slowly.

S - Lots of bready yeast. Some lemongrass and honey. Very soft scent with more chouffe than ommengang.

T - Enjoying this at room temperature so I’m getting warm apple cider, pears and honey. There’s this sort of mix of salad and whisky that I wasn’t expecting. It has this hot boozy whisky sort of burn and taste.

M - 100% carbonation, medium body. very bready sweet finish.

O - This is a delicious beer. It’s NICE and a solid beer and one I’ll buy again.

16/VIII/2012 75cl from Canal Liquors (Mt. Ephraim) @ Klaas' place - BB: n/a (2012-945)

Little cloudy orange beer, small off-white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: some orange and citrus fruits, orange peel, bit soapy, some overripe fruits, cloves. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: candied orange peel, very spicy, little bitter, bit sugary, sweet. Aftertaste: orange peel, spices, quite alcoholic, little bitter, very unimpressive. I regret bringing this bottle all the way from the States. You could say that time cought up with it, but I bought it less than one year before and any "Belgian Style" beer should be able to withstand that.

Havinfgtried several of the Chouffe brews, this one is dead on. Aroma, taste and color are spot on.Love the work Ommegang is doing bringing awesome Belgian styles to the USA. Collaboration with Westvletern, anyone?

Draft at Dexters. Pale orange-tan. Thin white head rims the glass. Sweet and sugary, a bitter Tripel, perhaps a Belgian Golden Ale. Full bodied, rather alcohol forward. Still authentic tasting. Maybe similar to Duvel at times. Well crafted, but maybe a little uninventive and straightforward for 2011. OK.

750 ml corked and caged bottle, shared with Brenn79. Thanks! Pours hazy cantaloupe with a large cream-colored lacy head with great retention; lots of sediment floating around. Aroma is fruity--banana, passion fruit--and yeasty; clove and citrus powder drink are also noticeable. Taste is sweet and meaty, a little tart; faintly dry and bitter in the finish. Carbonation is medium, mouthfeel is creamy. Delicious!

Spicy, yeasty, good but not the greatness I’d expect from the collaboration. The yeast is fruity but not too prevalent, yet the noble hops seem harsh and overly, well, European. Like they Americanized the brew using European hops, of which I never find myself a fan. Still, the grassy, wheat-filled front is tasty, even if the burn on the fade stands out a bit.

750 ml corked and caged bottle given to me as a Christmas gift. Pkg 07/25/11 stamped on neck. The pour is a fully hazed golden with a fizzy one inch white head that falls fast. The aroma is spiced yeast, dry straw, and light sugar fruit sweetness (grapes, on the way to raisin). The taste is the sweet malt with the yeasty hay spice. Some lingering clove yeast. The palate is medium to heavy bodied, soft natural carbonation, with a mineral finish that shows yeast and lingering sweetness. Alcohol shows some and warms the finish.
