Opague. Apple aroma. Sugary sweet with roasted malt and a touch of lactic sourness. Apple dumplings. A minor Belgian classic.

Lovely old-fashioned, English-style sweet stout, the type of stout that was popular in Belgium for decades in the 20th century, long before anyone here ever heard of imperial stout. Since Callewaert closed down in 1998, Huyghe produces this. Yellowish beige, dense, moussy but not too stable foam, colour near black with ruby red hue (under bright light, that is). Malty aroma of caramel, raisins, blackcurrant, brown sugar. Smooth, light and creamy taste as expected from this style, sweet, caramelly, even a bit tafelbier-like, very brief bitterness in the finish. Simple but honest and interesting as one of the last remnants of a long-gone aspect of Belgian beer culture.

Bottle at the Night of Garbage, thanks and no thanks to myself - pushing the boat out to win the star of the show on this evening, now this fits the fucking bill - 20/12/13 up a shit load of stairs ! Extremely dark mahogony brown/light black with a thin tan pond/swirl. Nose is paper, light toffee, musty, sugars. Taste comprises a sweet aspartamic lick, metallic tang, brown sugars, papery, cane sugar. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet finale, nay - sweet tooth rot in a glass! True dogshit - I win ... flawless victory !!! M to the E to the H !

Bottle at the Night of Garbage, thanks to Colin. At long last we get to some proper garbage. It pours darkest brown with a light tan head. The nose is burnt wood, toast, caramel, sugar, ash and sweet liquorice. The taste is intensely sweet, artificial sweetener, sugary, caramel, cola, wood,, metal and an odd spicy thing in the background. Lightish body, high carbonation and foamy mouth-feel. This is truly nasty. Insanely sweet and near impossible to swallow! Proper garbage.

The (not so) shit beer tasting at Leightons stratospheric flat. Clear dark red - amber beer, little pale tan head. Palate is light and very dry. Sugary sweet malt, half burned sugar. Light dry finish with hideous artificial.sweetners kicking in. Bleh!

Bottle shared at the Night of Garbage - big thanks to Colin. Pours clear, red-brown with a creamy beige head. The nose has sugary brown bread and chocolate, some rotten fruits. Hugely sweet flavor, lots of doughy brown bread, sugary dark malts, Aspartame, metal. Light bodied with average carbonation. Very sweet finish, saccharine, with dark bread, slight cocoa, metallic. Quite poor. Not easy to drink.

Bottle @ home. Gift from Joes: cheers! Very dark brown color with a nice dark red glow coming through. Small beige head on top. Smell malts, sweet, hint of coffee. Tastes about the same. Nothing really wrong with it but pretty boring. Low carbo, low body.
