A fierce and powerful creature was the Black Boar. This huge beast played a massive role in shaping ancient Irish history. Famously the Black Boar killed, and was killed by Diarmuid the warrior while he answered the challenge of his archrival Fionn Mac Cumhail in the mountain of Ben Bulben in County Sligo. The Black Boar has come to represent resilience. Fitting then that this black, silky Imperial Stout should carry the name of one of ancient Ireland’s most notorious icons.

This was part of the White Hag BoxTravaganza box sent from Ireland by Steve Matthews cheers mate 👍. Can, consumed at a beer tasting, Thursday 9th September 2021 with Kykao brewery and friends. Pours black with a tan head. Really roasty, a lovely tang, good challenging bitter roastiness, quite good to try this no nonsense Impy after others that are a little more lets say extravagant. This is a great stout.

Draught Deep tan-cream-greige head over pitch black beer. Nutty, roast, and rather sweet smelling; impression of sweet booze. Chocolate sweets, Chocotoff. Drier, but even nuttier, again impression of booze (rum, liqueur,...), sweet - with the chocolate even Bailey's-like. Roast, wry, walnut on one hand, and rum-nut-raisinscake on the other; instead of blending pulling in different directions. Very well-bodied, chewy. Alcoholheat. Lots of liquorice/jap in the aftertaste. I'm not impressed.

330ml can via Beer52: Poured into a Gordon badged thistle shaped glass at home on 28th Mar 2021. Smooth tanned foam on top of a very dark brew, looked interesting and wholesome! Malty and Beefy (rather than Wild Boar or 'Porky') in both the nose and taste, some coffee and chocolate esters and flavours creep in, but this is meaty and not for any veggie types at all; because of that I liked it!

330ml can from Monster and Beer, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a dark brown colour with a mostly lasting frothy tan head. The aroma is roasty malt, liqourice and boozy alcohol. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a rich, roasty, liqourice, molasses, chocolate, dry spicy, warm alcohol bitter palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Surprisingly awesome!

33cl can from hopt.it. Pours black, with very limited brown foam, very fine. Aroma is rich, with chocolate, molasses, caramel, vanilla. Body is dense, like carbonation. Nice stickiness. Taste is medium-high sweet, with good roasty bitterness. Final is long, sweet and chocolate.

Can, 10.2%. The aroma is dusty, vinous. Black colour. Dark brown colour. The flavour is sweet and spicy, has a good oily mouthfeel. Very sweet, but well balanced by the alcohol.
