This new British session bitter, brewed exclusively for this Wetherspoon real-ale festival, is copper in colour and brewed with classic British hop varieties, resulting in a honey-sweet and delicate hedgerow spiced bitterness, balanced against a bready malt base.

Pours a lightly hazed amber colour with a small creamy head. The aroma is malty, grainy with some light citrus and leafy hop notes. A moderately sweet taste, smooth malty flavours, leafy hop bitterness and light dryness in the finish.

Cask at Bull & Stirrup, Chester. Pours “bitter brown” with a small foamy white head and good lacing. Malts to the fore in the aroma, along with a dab of honey. In the mouth the texture is sweet and creamy (almost cloying), but some floral hops can be detected at a low level. Piney bitterness does come through eventually though. Nice and quite tasty for its strength.

Cask half-pint in my local Wetherspoons on 31st March 2022. Clean copper body, decent white head that lasted. Hop front to the nose, piney mostly. The taste was also hop forward with a good bitterness, the malt content gave balance and a hint of sweetness.

[Cask at the Prince Arthur (JDW), Fleet.] A pale amber pour with a ring of white head; slightly citrus aroma; grainy body with a little citrus; and a crisp hedgerow hop bitterness giving some warmth and spice to the finish. Rather good.
