Cask in Mermaid St Albans. Brown colour, small head, almost no lacing. Aroma is truffle pralines, a bit of plum, plus herbal hops in the aftertaste. Light bitterness. Light body. Good.

Sampled (a couple of times) with my brother in the Marlborough Arms in Marlborough, before an open fire, surrounded by beams and oak panelling. A true winter warmer, with strong malt and a lovely sweetness from the rum. A great mouthfeel and the aclohol adds an extra layer to the flavour.

Cask at the Rose & Crown, Sandhurst. Golden amber with a loose cream head; woody cask aroma; sweet and warming with a touch of rum fudge; then rather thin and dry; with some vanilla in the finish. I’m not really sure about this, as there’s little sign of the expected chocoalte, and no hint of any spices.

Cask at The Shoulder of Mutton, Wantage, Oxon 6th March 2014 Pours conker brown, regarding the truffle in the name I don’t have a clue about this beer but I do consider it a bit earthy and with more than a mushroomy nod (I’m sure that the truffle is probably more chocolate than fungal) A little bitterness, some chewiness perhaps a little caramel. On gravity at the Tewkesbury Beer festival, 4/02/2011. Dark brown with a slight, off-white head. Slightly sweet aroma with a yeast edge. Flavour of bland malts upfront, verging on the savoury with hints of oxo and a vegetal edge, before a sweetish finish. Ended up down the sink and my worst beer of the festival by a long way.
