Can. A black one, topped by a small dark beige head. Some lacing. The aroma has lots of delicious coffee, along with caramel, roasted malts, notes of bourbon and bonfire, dark chocolate and vanilla. It's full-bodied and warming, softly carbonated, with a nice bitterness from coffee, roasted malts and hops. Roasted malts, coffee, bonfire, bourbon, vanilla and cocoa. Quite a lot of toffee. Lasting finish. A bit sweet, but sure nice. 221119

AleSmith is one of my preferred brewers and imperial stouts certainly at the top tier of my best styles. What can go wrong here? I have a small session going tonight and hope Double Fudge can save it. A shaker glass from a Houston brewery will have to suffice and with that in place I open the 16 oz can. Brown going to black in color with a slim skim of light tan bubbles forming an oval. The scent is rich chocolate with some coffee slipping in. The drink, well, it's pretty fine. Semi-sweet chocolate, strawberries, cane syrup, lightly with the coffee, grain, malt and pecans. Less sweet than I anticipated, not a complaint, with a significant bitterness. It feels thick on the tongue. Good brew.

Can: Poured pitch-black color stout with a large dark brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of roasted malt with some heavy cocoa and black chocolate notes, some vanilla and floral coffee notes. Taste is dominated by dry roasted malt notes with some cocoa and black chocolate notes with some vanilla notes with some more subtle than expected floral coffee notes. Body is quite full with good carbonation with no discernible alcohol notes. Enjoyable but dryer than expected.

A deep dark stout with a very thin mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, light peated notes, light ash character, alcohol warmth, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity chocolate malt with dark fruits, licorice, alcohol warmth, light burned coffee, pleasant.

0.473 l can from 'Drinks & Gifts', canned in December 2021. Pitch black with a thin, slightly fluffy, slowly diminishing, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty aroma of cocoa, vanilla, caramel, coffee and some hazelnut. Quite sweet, malty, fairly roasty taste of massive coffee, cocoa, vanilla, hazelnut, some caramel and hints of cinnamon, followed by a long, fairly roasty-bitter, earthy, a little harsh finish. Medium to full body, smooth and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Good Imperial Stout, but not the best Speedway variant, a little too harsh and too heavy on the coffee for my liking.
