Can pour (2/1/19) into nonic pint glass from Colonial Spirits, Acton. Appearance is very dark brown (mahogany with light source directly behind), trace sparkle, 1/2-finger width beige head with poor retention and fair leggy lacing. Aroma is mild earthy, roasted malts. Taste is slightly stronger earthy, roasted malts than aroma. Mouthfeel is medium side of light-to-medium bodied with thick, frothy texture, soft-to-average carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, completely one dimensional. Not bad but aroma and flavor are fairly mild and not complex.

Bottle courtesy of AirForceHops. Sweet chocolate, earthy coffee aroma. Dark brown with a moderate tan head. Earthy roasty malt, light coffee, and some chalky cocoa flavor with a bitter roasty finish. Body on the light side of medium, average carbonation.

12oz bottle pours a translucent, deep, super dark brown with a creamy, lacing, slightly mocha colored head. Nose is wet malts, dark bread, cold coffee, a little brown sugar. Relatively mild aroma. Flavor is sweet, caramel, molasses, dark bread, a little bit of coffee grounds, crackers, malty. Medium bodied, dry finish. Fairly standard.

Pours deep mahogany into an English pint. Fluffy mocha head with good retention craters as it recedes to skim surface. Coffee and chocolate aromas. Smooth and crisp with slightly sour cocoa from front to back. Lasting coffee finish.

A deep clear brown opaque porter with a thin light moka head. Pleasant pungent coffee and chocolate aroma, sweetish, vanilla notes. In mouth, a good sweet moka chocolate, with light bitterness, sustained, light burned toast, all very restrained and pleasant. A bit thin in mouth feel, with a velvety finish.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a black hue and a nice sized tan head. Aroma of metal, blood, strong roasted malt, molasses and even a dose of hops - definitely noticeable. Medium-bodied; Strong metallic flavour up front with roasted malt following behind and a definite hop flavour - even really overshadowing the caramel sweetness at the end - very interesting! Overall, a good rather robust and hoppy porter - definitely worth trying if you like porters and you like hops! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage on 12-July-2008, sampled on 26 August 2008 at home in Washington.

12 oz bottle from alldaydrinker; Nose of chocolate, roasted nuts, with a lightly hoppy accent; Dark transparent brown with a medium cinnamon, lightly lacing head; flavor is light hop bitterness, chocolate, and a little pepperiness; finish is lightly bitter. Pretty good little porter!

2004 bottle. Has a very dark brown color, with a moderate amount of fizzy light tan head. Aroma of oily roast, light hops and grains. Flavor is somewhat reminiscent to a Reserve Special Black bier, minus the bottle conditioning, which of course is a big minus. It’s got a looser body, not nearly as much creaminess and flavor, but still overall, you can tell it was well-made. No faults (unless you are like me and call filtration and non-bottle conditioning a fault). Slightly roasty bitterness on the finish, little bit of mocha flavor, touch of sweet milk.
